Herrera Environmental Consultants Controller in Seattle, Washington

In this role we will count on you to:

  • Partner with the CFO to develop, communicate, and implement financial policies and internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements including cash flow reports and projections; reconcile general ledger; and monitor progress and changes.
  • Manage and coordinate the preparation and submission of financial or operational compliance reporting, taxes, and other monthly, quarterly, and annual filings.
  • Assist the CFO in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare actual results with a view to identifying, explaining, and correcting variances as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the CFO in the development and implementation of financial systems and technology.
  • Evaluate, implement, update, and streamline policies, procedures, controls, and most methodologies.

Other duties you will be responsible for:

  • Educating employees across the organization in the use of various business and accounting tools.
  • Coordinating and managing all internal and external audits and audit activity, ensuring compliance with auditing standards and regulations.
  • Managing relationships with external auditors, financial institutions, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the fiscal expertise of company leadership through training programs and individual consultation.
  • Maintaining professional skills and awareness of regulatory changes, compliance issues, innovations, trends, best practices, and developments, through research and training/continuing education opportunities.
  • Leading, coaching, and mentoring a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance and support in their daily activities to ensure high-quality work.
  • Exhibiting a "roll-up-the-sleeves" mentality as an active, present leader and participant in day-to-day department work activities.
  • Fostering a positive work environment, leveraging strengths of team members helping clarify roles and responsibilities, and developing and implementing training programs to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Experience, & Licensure/Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business with an emphasis in accounting
  • 10+ years of experience in progressively responsible accounting and financial roles, including roles responsible for core accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, auditing, and compliance
  • 10+ years progressive experience in private industry accounting
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience with strong leadership and team management skills and the ability to motivate and mentor employees

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment

Tech-savvy: proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, advanced Excel skills, and advanced knowledge and experience with ERP systems, including implementations and cloud-based tools

Remarkable analytical, quantitative, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Effective communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels and communicate financial information to non-financial audiences

Ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

Demonstrated resourcefulness and strong time management skills

Keen attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
