Amazon Carbon Assurance Manager, WW Sustainability in Seattle, Washington

Description

Join us at the cutting edge of Amazon's sustainability initiatives to work on environmental and social advancements to support Amazon's long term worldwide sustainability strategy. At Amazon, we're working to be the most customer-centric company on earth. To get there, we need exceptionally talented, bright, and driven people.

The Worldwide Sustainability (WWS) organization capitalizes on Amazon’s scale and speed to build a more resilient and sustainable company. We manage our social and environmental impacts globally, and drive solutions that enable our customers, businesses, and the world to become more sustainable.

The ESG-eX team's mission is to build a lasting, scalable and trusted ESG reporting infrastructure to satisfy regulatory requirements and stakeholders’ expectations. We translate external requirements into internal needs and build tools and mechanisms that enable Amazon businesses to meet their ESG reporting obligations and effectively manage their ESG opportunities and risks.

The Carbon Assurance Manager is responsible for maintaining and overseeing an audit-ready comprehensive environmental data accounting and metric reporting program for Amazon’s global environmental measurements.

This role requires deep expertise in external reporting, internal controls over sustainability reporting, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounting, and third-party assurance of sustainability metrics. The candidate will lead Amazon’s sustainability teams as they continuously improve the measurement, internal controls, and reporting of sustainability metrics.

Key job responsibilities

  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert on sustainability technical accounting topics, internal controls over sustainability reporting, third-party assurance, and ESG disclosure requirements. As needed, develop training and guidance materials to distribute across relevant teams and leaders

  • Support the design and oversee the implementation of robust data collection processes, internal controls, and internal audit/quality assurance procedures to ensure the integrity and reliability of sustainability data

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of sustainability accounting methodologies, data sources, and internal controls to support the audit and assurance process (i.e., Standard Operating Procedures, Risk and Control Matrices, etc.)

  • Lead the third-party assurance preparation process by engaging and educating data owners/key stakeholders, reviewing supporting documentation prior to sharing, and designing and implementing final data validation activities

  • Liaise directly with third-party assurance providers to facilitate the verification of sustainability and emissions data, including managing the assurance process, addressing information requests, and implementing improvement recommendations

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define consistent measurement and reporting boundaries, emission factors, and accounting methodologies in alignment with recognized sustainability and climate disclosure frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD, ESRS)

  • Prepare detailed sustainability reports, ESG disclosures, and related communications for both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and investor expectations
