Weyerhaeuser Capital Procurement Manager in Seattle, Washington

You are a forward thinking, strategic procurement leader who has a passion for capital project procurement and project management. You will play a critical role in partnering with our Wood Products (WP) business in execution of capital projects and best procurement strategy. You are a leader who can influence indirect teams and stakeholders to maximize procurement performance.

In this role, your primary responsibility will be to execute our WP Procurement strategy in alignment with the Capital Project plan along with WP’s drive to Operational Excellence and Reliability improvements. To be successful in this role, you will build relationships and partner with suppliers, contractors, and key internal stakeholders. You will need to be involved with and understand our current and upcoming capital projects along with our regional and local norms for project execution. You will need to be in front of changes in our industry that may impact our ability to successfully execute our capital plan including market supply and demand, supply chain constraints, and global trade issues.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform capital project procurement function; including bidder prequalification, form of contract selection, bid solicitation and evaluation, contract negotiation, contract award, contract administration and close out.

  • Manage project contractors/suppliers’ delivery performance (documentation, goods, services) to ensure meets project schedule, by directly expediting or coordinating expediting by others.

  • Provide strategic direction, functional leadership, and planning to all sites for successful procurement execution of capital projects.

  • Provide consulting expertise for projects’ sourcing, purchasing, contracting, insurance, indemnification, performance guarantees, acceptance criteria, risk allocation, performance incentives, compensation provisions, and preferred practices.

  • Coordination of other project activities with project team members—both internal and external. o Safety coaching and implementation of safety processes

    o Participate in developing and administration of project schedules

    o Coordination of all receiving and accounts payable processes

    o Analysis and negotiation of contract claims, readiness review and assessment.

  • Working knowledge of Weyerhaeuser’s capital portfolio planning.

  • Lead projects’ cost reduction efforts.

  • Negotiate and manage multi-year/non-capital/contracts in assigned spend categories.

  • Maximize utilization of national contracts, proper processes, and procurement initiatives.

  • Assist buyers with vendor management, including conflict resolution.

  • Contribute to the creation and improvement of procedures and standards as required.

  • Perform other related work as directed by Procurement Director.

  • 8 years capital procurement experience in heavy industry, includes developing sourcing strategies, with strong focus on safety, including contractor safety

  • Proven ability to negotiate and manage multi-million equipment purchase contracts, engineering service contracts, and construction contracts

  • Demonstrated value added procurement techniques that impact the business bottom line

  • Experience in conflict management and resolution

  • Proven knowledge of the project management process

  • Experience in a manufacturing setting

  • Strong communications and analytical skills

  • Strong contract writing skills

  • Has in depth understanding and application of contract laws and purchasing ethics

  • Proven ability to motivate and manage resources and influence stakeholders

  • Ability to relate to and communicate with senior leaders as well as hourly associates

  • Strong experience in utilizing Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, etc.)

*Preferred Qualifications: *

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Professional procurement accreditation (CPM or equivalent)

  • 5 years’ experience working for multi-discipline industrial engineering or EPC firm

  • Intermediate knowledge of MRO procurement

  • Intermediate knowledge of investment recovery

  • Experience in wood products industry

  • Working knowledge of SAP
