Everyday hundreds of children participate in fun and engaging YMCA programs. Be part of an amazing team of staff that transport children to and from program activities and sites during the summer!

Day Camp season runs June 26 – August 31 (start dates vary by location) with trainings for some positions beginning in early June. Shifts range from 6:45am - 6:00pm. Day camp program sites are located throughout the community surrounding our branches at local schools and parks. Bus Drivers will start working April 15th.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing

  • Transports children to and from program activities and site(s).

  • Makes daily safety inspections of vehicle.

  • Reports to supervisor any conditions on vehicle in need attention or correction.

  • Oversees conduct of children on vehicle.

  • Follows all driver guidelines and standards.

  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.

  • May supervise a group of program participants.

Qualifications

What we're looking for in an applicant

  1. 22 years of age or older.

  2. Current Washington State Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with class B Passenger endorsement and Air Brake Restrictions Removed for 66-passenger buses.

  3. Driving record which meets or exceeds YMCA standards.

    Preferred Education/Experience

    • Four years or more general driving experience, with bus driving experience preferred.

    • Current state approved first aid certification. *

    • Current state approved CPR certification. *

    • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

    • Experience with anti-racism practices and coalition building.

  • At hire or earliest possible training.

    Authorized Driver

    This is a safety-sensitive role that requires you to become an “authorized driver” for the Y. This offer is contingent upon meeting the following conditions: Being 22+, having a current medical examiner's certificate, a valid driver's license for at least four years and possessing a driving record that meets Y standards (no more than two moving violations within the last three years, no significant incidents such as reckless driving, DUI/DWI, no tickets 20+ miles above the speed limit etc. within the last 5 years *Due to state-specific reporting requirements in our fleet management system, we are not currently able to enroll California Driver's License holders as Authorized Drivers) You must also pass a drug screen that will test for impairing substances, including marijuana.
