Summary About the Position: Serves as the Seattle District (District) expert in the Endangered Species Act (ESA), its administrative process, and regulations, and their potential impact on the wide variety of District programs and projects. Performs field and office duties concerned with the protection, preservation, and enhancement of environmental resources in aquatic and terrestrial environments for civil works, military, and other programs undertaken by the District. Responsibilities Provide guidance to on a variety of technical, policy, and process matters related to compliance with the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Provide oversight, direction, review, and approval of ESA compliance related documents for plan formulation studies. Initiate and develop working relationships to form mutual trust and respect with the Services. Initiate, organize, and lead field visits to collect samples/specimens and to observe and document baseline biological, ecological, aesthetic, and physical environmental conditions in aquatic and terrestrial areas. Provide resources and conduct in-house trainings/seminars to educate colleagues while ensuring all District programs are aware of the ESA requirements and opportunities. Prepare papers, submit presentations and posters; and share or acquire new and/or innovative ideas and proposals relating to the ESA and its affect on related disciplines. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that includes providing technical support for a natural resources management program in two or more of the following areas: terrestrial habitat evaluations, water quality, fisheries management, water resource management, or habitat restoration. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Information Management Planning and Evaluating Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
