Job Summary

*This is an on-site position

Provides specialized individual or small group training. Instructs individual or group wellness, fitness, trainings and/or related classes. Acts as a liaison and advocate for YMCA. Understands the Health Seeker target market and provides motivational coaching to members participating in ongoing YMCA programs.

    Hiring Range: $24.00 - $26.40/hour DOE

*Instructors are paid for class time, as well as the 15 minutes before and after a class.

Responsibilities

A youth basketball personal trainer is responsible for designing and delivering individualized basketball training programs to young athletes, focusing on developing fundamental skills, improving athleticism, and fostering a positive learning environment while prioritizing safety and age-appropriate development, often working with players in a one-on-one or small group setting.

Key responsibilities:

Skill Development:Teach and refine core basketball skills like dribbling, shooting, passing, footwork, defense, and game strategy tailored to the athlete's age and ability level. Individualized Training Plans:Assess each athlete's strengths and weaknesses to create customized training programs that address specific needs and goals. Technical Instruction:Provide detailed feedback on form and mechanics to optimize performance and prevent injury. Physical Conditioning:Incorporate strength and conditioning exercises to enhance athleticism, speed, agility, and endurance. Mental Training:Develop mental toughness and focus through drills and strategies to improve game-day performance. Communication and Parent Interaction:Maintain open communication with parents, regularly updating them on progress and addressing any concerns. Safety and Supervision:Ensure a safe training environment by monitoring athletes, enforcing proper techniques, and addressing any safety concerns.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years experience teaching or practicing in specialized area.

  • Ability to lead a class or provide individual service.

  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

  • Ability to motivate and educate members.

  • Ability to set up, move and store equipment.

  • Personal Trainer certification: Nationally recognized certification such as YMCA Fitness Specialist Trainer, YMCA Fitness Testing and Assessment Specialist Trainer, ACSM, ACE, NSCA.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current state approved first aid certification.*

  • Current state approved CPR certification.*

  • High school education or equivalent.

  • Total Service/Total Health Training**

  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

    • Within thirty days of employment.

    ** Within 60 days of employment.
