UW Video has an outstanding opportunity for a Non-Permanent Audio Operator. The Audio Operator (A1) works under the direction of the Producer, Director and Videographer during a production. The A1 is responsible for recording high-quality audio during single and multi-camera productions, this includes microphone placement and maintenance, recording to correct channels, and monitoring audio levels. They may be called upon to perform other duties associated with the production such as grip and lighting, setting-up the field prompter, and setting-up and operating the pipe dolly. Typical Responsibilities: 100% - Setup, run and monitor audio during productions • Setup audio mixers and monitor audio levels for single and multi-camera productions and live events • Find proper microphone and speaker placement for best, controlled sound for venue • Record high-quality audio from computers, press feeds, playback VTR or other source • Setup intercom systems and wireless microphones • Operate all audio gear and provide good audio in “run and gun” situations General Skills: • Proficient in working on multi-camera, switched broadcasts • Must show that can successfully assemble and disassemble audio mixers • Ability to perform complicated audio setups including booming several people with one boom, recording audio from a computer, press feed, playback VTR or other source • Ability to perform complex audio setups for camera shoots including hidden microphones, sending wireless audio to the camera, providing audio to two cameras simultaneously, and running portable audio recorders for transcription • Have knowledge of the different types of microphones and proper placement • Be able to read a VU meter and understand the dynamics of audio recording • Ability to work and respectfully communicate with a diverse team • Must be reliable and show up on time for scheduled call times • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and as part of a team Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of experience. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications. • Minimum 3 years of experience in a production environment performing high-quality location and/or studio audio recording.
