The Associate Director of Digital Strategy will assist in the ideation and execution of creative content for web, social media, mobile app and other digital and online projects towards the goal of generating incremental revenue and enhancing fan engagement and brand affinity. Oversee ICA’s digital and multi-media libraries.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Social Media (70%)
Develop, plan and implement creative brand awareness and publicity efforts for the department and its 22 sport programs.
Serve as the department’s primary contact for all social and emerging media channels and develop, execute and manage all online marketing strategies. Ideate, create and publish content for @UWAthletics social channels on Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), Facebook and YouTube.
Assist in or publish creative content on Washington Athletics auxiliary social channels.
In partnership with UW ICA’s multi-media rights holder, experiment with new and alternative ways to leverage social and emerging media for the purpose of generating revenue for the department of athletics, including, but not limited to, sponsored content.
Monitor trends in emerging media and appropriately apply that knowledge to grow the department’s increased value.
Strategize with and educate athletics staff members, sport contacts and student-athletes on incorporating relevant social media techniques into their culture and into all of their marketing and brand-building efforts.
Measure the impact of social media using relevant analytics.
Maintain a high level of professionalism and composure in creating social media content and interacting with followers of the department’s social media properties.
Assist in the production of graphical elements.Web and Other Digital Media (30%)
Participate in web strategy development.
Execute online revenue-generating projects through digital campaigns.
Spearhead the creation of custom microsites and web experiences that promote UW Athletics events or strategic initiatives.
Work to coordinate editorial production efforts throughout the department and individual sport programs to achieve consistency and resource efficiency.
Develop, manage and maintain the department's digital photography needs and archives.
Assist in strategizing growth opportunities for the Huskies Gameday App, including push notifications.
Supervise a team of student interns who will assist with execution of the social media strategy.Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in communication or related field and two years of experience in social media, sports marketing, promotion and/or web development. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Well-versed in social media tools and techniques and a pulse on emerging platforms. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Deep and developed knowledge of college athletics, the University of Washington and NCAA regulations.
A knowledge of and passion for web development and social media. CONDITITONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Considerable weekend hours and some travel required. Deadlines and events also require this position to work irregular work weeks.
