This position refines and implements the Center’s Washington State Programs strategy including the strategic plan’s goal of ensuring continued program innovation driven by implementation of relevant academic research. This position ensures the Washington State Programs evaluation, manages the programs staff, program operations and administration. With the Director, Program Director and Deputy Director, this position secures financial support and manages relationships with funders of the WA State Programs and stakeholders internal to UW. This position will lead the growth, development, and continuous improvement of programs to accelerate student careers and grow businesses and job in communities where they are needed most.
The Assistant Director of the WA State Programs will collaborate with the Director of Programs in making strategic decisions that impact the Center’s WA State education for business owners, experiential learning for enrolled students and academic research. This position will be responsible for managing the WA State Programs team’s day-to-day execution, ensuring the expectations of corporate, foundation, and individual funders are met. The Assistant Director of WA State Programs will serve as the point of contact for the Center’s WA State Programs and serve as the lead content expert on the WA State work and impact. This position will lead and grow both program development and staff who are executing the programs and fund raising from individual, corporate, foundation, and government support.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES LEAD WASHINGTON STATE PROGRAMS DELIVERY (45%)
Within the Center’s mission and strategic goals, lead a team of employees in continuous, measurable performance improvements which may include planning, executing, and launching new programs and modifying or eliminating existing programs. This work will include:
• Leading and staffing the Center’s Yakima Advisory Board and Tribal Gaming and Hospitality Management Certificate Program Advisory Board, and providing staff support to multiple committees from the Center’s main Advisory Board • Leading the development of policies, program strategies and tools based on research from Foster School faculty and other academic researchers that lead to measurable program outcome improvements • Designing the annual program evaluation process for each of the Center’s programs to enable successful data collection and analysis that leads to continued program improvements and enables best-in-class impact reporting to internal and external stakeholders including funders • Developing and implementing strategies to reach the Center’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals within Washington State programs • Preparing and delivering written and oral reports to funders and other stakeholders • With the Director of Programs and the Director, organize and execute the Center’s annual Impact Awards including securing funding partners, event honorees ,and event speakers
FUND RAISING (25%)
Through writing and submitting funding proposals, developing and growing relationships, and making requests directly to donors, raise at least $300,000 in annual program support. This fund-raising goal will increase annually. Additionally, lead and support the work of direct reports to raise at least an additional $100,000 in annual program support for Washington State Programs. This fund-raising goal will increase annually.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT (15%)
• Model the organizational culture using the CBDC’s core values. • Supervise and grow the skills of direct reports in high-quality program development and execution. This will include regular check-ins for supervision, coaching, mentoring, thought partnership, core values alignment, performance reviews, and professional development. • Monitor Washington State team staff member performance metrics to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation, and goal setting. • Empower staff to hold and act upon the Center’s mission, vision, and strategic goals in executing their work. • Recruit, hire, onboard, manage, develop, train, retain, and terminate Washington State team staff members. • Support the Washington State team’s staff members in using and complying with the operational systems, processes, controls, and procedures, including project management tools and software, that maximize the overall efficiency of the Center • Work with the Center's Faculty Director to support Foster faculty in their research on issues relevant to the Center
PROGRAM OPERATIONS AND ADMINISTRATION (15%)
• Prepare quarterly financial reports used in making budget decisions • Track revenue and gift income for both Washington State and National programs • Ensure the Center's compliance with all UW and Foster School financial management policies and practices • Create a Washington State program budget and monitor spending. • Identify, engage, and negotiate with vendors providing services applicable to the Center’s Washington State programs (including drafting RFPs and screening proposals), and ensure the Washington State team complies with applicable laws and regulatory requirements. • Identify the most relevant and efficient hardware and software needed to maximize the Washington State team’s ability to collaborate, create and store documents, communicate, and maximize productivity.
Lead Responsibilities:
• Developing policies, programs, and tools to continuously grow the success of WA State programs and fund raising • Lead fund raising efforts to ensure continued growth in financial support for Washington State program • Professional growth and work accountability of direct reports • Lead budgeting for Washington State programs and financial management for the Center overall
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position will have 2-4 direct FTE reports and may have student assistants work in support roles
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, education, economics, ethnic studies, or similar plus a minimum of 5-years’ experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates with a lived experience of navigating structural barriers and who reflect the community served by the Center, add considerable value to this work. Experience leading business support and student experiential learning programs in Washington State is also desired.
