UW Facilities (UWF) is one of the largest and most diverse administrative units on the Seattle campus supporting a large urban university. UWF manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure, and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. Our teams can be organized into six main groups: Finance & Administration, Asset Management, Operations, Real Estate, Campus Energy, Utilities & Operations, and Business Intelligence & Technology. UW Facilities Finance & Administration provides financial, procurement and sourcing, human resources and training, communications, and UW capital budgeting leadership to all of UW Facilities (UWF).

Finance & Administration has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director of Finance, Financial Analysis , a high-level position responsible for financial data management and analysis with primary focus on supporting UW Facilities leadership. Multi-faceted analyses and modeling require excellent skills in gathering, analyzing, and reporting financial data, often originating from multiple sources. This role provides information which plays a critical role in executive level decision making and requires a proactive and positive approach focused on meeting current and future business needs. The Assistant Director must be innovative and creative to develop customized reporting and analysis based on business scenarios in addition to leading teams of analysts in this development work.

Position Complexities

This position is an integral member of the UWF Finance & Administration team and must be adaptable, flexible, and able to manage a high volume of work. A team-oriented approach is essential, coupled with a proactive and positive business approach focused on meeting current and future needs.

The Assistant Director supports the entire Facilities organization which has an annual operating budget of approximately $285 million, an annual capital budget of approximately $600 million and 400 different operating and capital cost centers. The complexities of multiple funding sources, cost allocations and many business units require a financial professional who can span from detail to big picture analyses and presentations seamlessly. The Assistant Director must develop strong and effective relationships with leaders in the UWF business units and be a business partner to unit leadership.

The Assistant Director manages the team of three analysts who provide financial analytical support for UWF. The wide variety and depth of responsibility requires excellent management skills, resourcefulness, attention to detail, sound judgement, and flexibility.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Director will support the Director of Finance in the financial management of UW Facilities. This position will be primarily responsible for the financial analysis and modeling for all units within UW Facilities. The financial analyses requires knowledge of strategic goals, business operations, use of multiple systems, and coordination with UWF leaders. Additionally, the Assistant Director will support the AVP F&A in the development of customized financial analyses for unique projects and reviews and the development of presentation materials for executives at different levels. Examples include Public Private Partnership assessment and analysis, funds flow analysis paired with process flow analysis, etc. This role requires excellent skills in gathering, analyzing, and reporting financial data, often originating from multiple sources.

Financial Analysis and Modeling (70%)

• Primary partner in developing specialized financial analyses for multiple users including the AVP F&A and other executives and senior leaders of UWF.

o Requires detailed knowledge of data mining within UW Financial System and UW Facilities systems and in-depth understanding of how to interpret and use data to produce viable and accurate financial reports. o Requires the ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with VP, AVP, and Director level positions across UW Facilities. o Requires involvement in the strategic goal setting for UWF and provides financial support to measure progress toward reaching organizational goals. o Requires deep knowledge of UW funding sources to analyze total sources and uses of funds at an organizational level as well as at a more granular unit level. o Must be able to understand varying operational models quickly and apply financial analysis expertise to assist in decision making. o Requires in-depth knowledge of software programs to maintain document credibility.

• Use advanced features of applications such as Excel, SQL Server analysis tools, Tableau, Power BI, Power Query, and/or other similar applications to extract and analyze large volumes of data, to include formatting to suit specific projects and audiences. • Use UW administrative system tools including Workday, the BI Portal, and the Enterprise Data Warehouse to extract and download system data for analysis. • Develop business models to study the impact of scenarios or decisions. This requires complex thinking and analysis to create models that drive business decisions. The models require a complete understanding of complex leases, Public Private Partnership business arrangements, and other multi-party agreements surrounding large capital projects. • Support the Director of Campus Stewardship and Capital Budgeting with analysis and review of the annual capital budget and long-term capital plan. This requires understanding of new and in-progress capital projects, cash flows for capital projects, and multi-year funding needs. This information comes from multiple sources and databases. • Manage the UWF Internship program by ensuring unit Directors are aware of the program, review applications for funds, and work with AVP F&A to determine funding recipients. Provide quarterly reporting of internship expenses to unit Directors. • Develop reports and present data for special projects as assigned. • Continually identify opportunities for improvement or gaps in business processes across UWF. Work to develop and implement process improvements. • Other duties as required.

Staff Management (30%)

• Manage a staff of three analysts who provide financial analytical support for the UWF organization. • Coordinate delegation of work to staff based on skill set, bandwidth, and opportunity for professional development.

Requirements include:

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field. • Four or more years’ experience in financial management. • Demonstrated experience in analyzing and presenting financial information from multiple sources. • Familiarity with a variety of UW systems and policies, especially related to finance. • Experience working with Workday Finance. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • High degree of professionalism, integrity and ownership needed; must be customer-committed and results-oriented.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

• Masters of Business Administration • Working knowledge of the UW financial accounting systems. • Knowledge of Yardi, AiM (Asset Works), and/or PM Web software
