The School of Law has an outstanding opportunity for a Assistant Director of Academic Success to join their team. POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to the Director of Academic Success, the Assistant Director of Academic Success advises, directs, and leads a comprehensive bar exam support program for JD and LLM students. The Assistant Director also supports the on-going academic success efforts of the department and other functions essential to promoting student success at UW Law.

This position will be situated within the Office of Student Affairs and will join a collaborative team that partners on the many projects and efforts designed to support our diverse student population. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with the Director of Academic Success, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Academic Services, Assistant Director of Student Life, Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Associate Dean for Academic Administration, the Legal Analysis, Research & Writing program, and the Graduate Programs.

The candidate will have a working understanding of the strengths of diverse students as well as an awareness of the role that systems and institutions play in privileging certain groups of students while marginalizing others.

POSITION DIMENSIONS AND IMPACTS TO THE UNIVERSITY

The Assistant Director of Academic Success is critical to furthering the law school's mission to ensure a positive and holistic student experience. The Assistant Director works with students from orientation through graduation and assists the Director of Academic Success with a full spectrum of academic success and bar support tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Administrative and Programmatic Duties (50%) • Develop, document, implement, and administer Academic Success policies. • In collaboration with the Director of Academic Success, assess academic support needs of UW Law students to ensure best possible bar passage rates. • Compile and analyze bar examination data relating to graduates’ performance and recommend changes to address weaknesses. • Monitor and participate in national conversations regarding the future of the bar exam. • Serve on AASE Bar Advocacy Committee. • Advise and work with faculty teaching bar-related courses to incorporate successful bar strategies skills, including practice questions into syllabi. • Update and maintain the Academic Success collaborative SharePoint site. • Assist graduate admissions team with evaluating bar eligibility of potential applicants.

Student Advising and Coaching (50%) • Host large and small group workshops to assist all law students with preparation and skill-building for the bar exam. • Provide structured writing, organizational, and analytical assistance to current students and recent graduates. • Serve as the point of contact for student questions regarding the bar exam. • Assist LLM students with course planning to ensure compliance with various state bar requirements. • Plan and host Bar Exam Week and related activities each January at UW Law. • Provide individual counseling regarding bar review preparation, including personalized study schedules. • Coordinate with commercial bar review companies to make sure students receive content as early as possible and make requests for disability accommodations where needed. • Track and mentor students during the commercial bar review periods. • Coordinate and host an in-person simulated bar exam for students during the bar review. • May be called upon to teach or co-teach a course related to bar preparation and success. • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Juris Doctorate degree and successful completion of a state bar exam (or LL.M. degree and successful completion of a state bar exam) and at least 1 year experience in student advising/coaching, program management, or bar prep in academic or non-academic settings.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Experience providing bar review preparation or academic support; possess a deep understanding of law testing methods and ability to advise students regarding bar exam success. • Excellent oral and written communications skills. • Experience working with students from diverse racial, cultural, educational and geographic backgrounds. • Ability to work independently and professionally under the pressure of frequent deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. • Ability to bring a student-centered approach to the work and be sensitive to issues faced by a diverse, demanding professional student population. • Ability to keep sensitive information confidential, deal with ambiguity and change, and work independently with limited supervision. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management. • Ability to prioritize tasks and complete numerous projects efficiently, effectively, and on deadline. • Familiarity integrating data and metrics to drive decision making for resources and support for students.
