The Information School has an exciting opening for an Assistant Dean for Advancement. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Assistant Dean for Advancement for the Information School (iSchool) leads the Advancement team’s fundriasing efforts to achieve its goals. This involves identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors to support the iSchool’s research and educational mission. These activities, in turn, increase private and voluntary support from corporate and individual donors, expand opportunities for research funding, and increase applications to the iSchool’s academic programs.

As a member of the Dean’s leadership team, the Assistant Dean for Advancement will lead by taking actions that exemplify the iSchool’s core values. Leadership within the iSchool is expressed in diverse ways that reflect the various styles and cultures represented by iSchool faculty, students and staff. The Assistant Dean for Advancement advises the iSchool Dean on fundraising, engagement and communication efforts.

The Assistant Dean for Advancement reports jointly to the Dean of the Information School and the Vice President for Development.

What You Will Do: Frontline Fundraising (30%)

Partner with the Dean to develop a focused set of fundraising priorities that advance the mission and strategic direction of the iSchool and increase private support that creates sustainable impact for the iSchool.

Partner with central Advancement to identify and foster engagement opportunities and solicit gifts in support of the School’s fundraising priorities, including principal giving, planned giving, annual giving as well as corporate and foundation giving.

Personally manage a portfolio of major gift prospects. Develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for each assigned prospect based on metrics, and prepare and oversee the development of written proposals, informational materials, endowment agreements and other communications needed to secure major gifts.

Focus iSchool related activities on proactive relationship-building and securing major gifts, while also developing a robust pipeline to support sustainable growth. Participate cooperatively in the University’s prospect management and tracking system.

Leadership and Team Management (30%)

Provide leadership and manage the iSchool’s advancement team and advancement program.

Create strategies and direct the iSchool’s external outreach activities that build and significantly expand the School’s relationships with external constituents, including donors, future and past students, faculty and potential friends of the iSchool.

Strategy Development (20%)

Create, manage and achieve measurable goals, objectives and strategies for the iSchool’s development and advancement activities as part of the University-wide development planning process. Regularly evaluate programs, assess progress toward goals and regularly report results to the Dean and VP for Development.

In collaboration with the Director of Communications, provide strategic direction for the creation of a communications plan that promotes the iSchool’s objectives. Coordinate outreach efforts to all internal and external iSchool constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members.

Campaign Planning (20%)

In close collaboration with the VP for Development, Dean of the iSchool and central University Advancement teams, coordinate campaign planning, including infrastructure development, volunteer identification/recruitment, prospect prioritization, internal communications coordination, and case definition and positioning in support of the iSchool and University priorities. Actively steward and build on the success of past campaigns to successfully support future multimillion-dollar campaigns.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree AND seven years of demonstrated progressively responsible experience in development/advancement, with an emphasis on cultivating and soliciting major gifts.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. What You Bring:

• Fundraising experience at a comprehensive research university or comparable organization. • Demonstrated success in identifying, personally cultivating, soliciting and closing major gifts. • Strong personnel and management experience along with superior interpersonal skills. • Self-motivator with enormous energy and a capacity for hard work within an intensely goal-oriented environment. • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with CRM databases and Microsoft Office Suite. • Knowledge of the integrated advancement model and alumni relations/development/advancement principles. • Advanced degree preferred.

What You Can Expect:

• Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice. • Must have regular and reliable transportation for local travel and willing to travel when necessary. • Local and regional travel expected.
