This opening is for 90% FTE, Days; (and with weekend and holiday coverage, and with the potential for some night shifts).

The APP for the Department of Neurological Surgery is responsible for comprehensive acute inpatient care, including neurosurgical and internal medicine management. The APP cares for the neurologically injured patient in a dynamic, active, ever-changing environment at the regions only Level I Trauma Center. Work is performed in collaboration with attending physicians, neurosurgeons, residents and internal medicine hospitalists. This is a part time position; there is no call for this position and there are no surgical responsibilities.

The Department of Neurological Surgery at Harborview Medical Center provides patient care services for a broad range of neurological diseases and disorders at the four University of Washington affiliated hospitals in Seattle, Washington. The Department is also the primary referral center for patients with complex neurological conditions and neurological trauma in the five state WWAMI region, as well as the tertiary referral center for national and international patients. In addition, the Department has one of the premier academic training programs in the world and maintains an active, cutting-edge research program ranging from basic science and translational research to a broad array of clinical trials.

The APP provides clinical expertise to patients and their families, is a resource person for health care providers, and participates in research and teaching programs. Work is performed 7 days a week with general independence and decision-making responsibility under the general guidance of the attending physicians, chief resident and department Nurse Manager. Guidelines include general policy procedures and practice guidelines established by the department and Harborview Medical Center, as well as appropriate professional and technical manuals.

Requirements:

• Nurse Practitioner:

  • Masters or Doctorate Degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing

  • AND Washington State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License with prescriptive privileges

  • AND National certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

• Physician Assistant:

  • Licensure as a Physician’s Assistant in the State of Washington

  • AND national certification from a national certifying body (NCCPA)

• BLS/ACLS certification required

• Applicant must be eligible to receive hospital staff appointments for adjunct staff membership by the Organized Medical Staff of the hospital under Medical Staff By-Laws for hospital-based positions.
