The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Anatomic Pathology Technologist. WORK SCHEDULE

  • Relocation incentive for eligible new employees. REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's Degree with coursework in chemistry, biology and other biological sciences including microscopy AND certificationOR

  • Certified within two years of date of hire, at the Technologist level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists or the Microscopy Society of America AND one year of clinical anatomic laboratory experienceOR

  • Equivalent education/experience PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive specimens and sort according to testing ordered and test specific qualifiers. Accession and organize specimens into assay lists for both HPV assays. Process specimens for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing including isolating DNA when applicable. Scan testing requisitions into cases in LIS.

  • Perform HPV testing, including performing maintenance and calibration of instruments, reagent preparation and disposal. Verify validity of the test performed and recognize errors and take steps to troubleshoot and correct problems as they occur. Analyze results and report in EMR. Participate in proficiency testing following College of American Pathologist (CAP) guidelines.

  • Respond to inquiries regarding testing options, specimen requirements, procedures, time to test completion and other laboratory related questions from faculty, clinicians, co-workers, and external institutions.

  • Verify pre and post assay Quality Control (QC) metrics for specimens, equipment and assay calibrations and controls and notify supervisor when metrics are out of expected and/or acceptable range.

  • Attend training and regulatory sessions as required or requested. Interact with faculty, staff, clinicians, inspectors and others in person, on the phone or via email in a professional manner.

  • Assist laboratory supervisor in implanting the systems and procedures required for meeting the CAP standards for laboratory accreditation.

  • Crosstrain and provide support for other labs within the department. Currently providing support to cytology and digital pathology.
