The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Anatomic Pathology Technician .

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 40 hours per week

  • Perform laboratory specimen processing consisting of receiving, identifying, sorting, preparation and distribution of pathology specimens

  • Accession cytology specimens accurately and follow up on missing information

  • Review cytology requests along with patient medical records to determine appropriate techniques or procedures for various specimen types

  • Independently asses for specimen adequacy and ensure specimens meet testing requirements

  • Determine disposition on improperly handled specimens or specimens intended for other lab sections

  • Monitor and perform quality control of specimens and slide preparations

  • Prepare microscopic slides using automated and semi-automated laboratory equipment

  • Perform manual staining and coverslipping of cytology slides

  • Maintain staining setup and prepare chemical solutions according to laboratory procedures

  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of lab equipment and instruments, troubleshoot instrument malfunction

  • Record laboratory data following Good Documentation Practice

  • Organize and maintain cytology specimen archive in accordance with retention procedures

  • Monitor and replenish lab supplies from inventory; place purchasing orders as necessary

  • Provide assistance during Fine Needle Aspiration collection procedures

  • Respond to inquiries concerning specimen requirements and case status

  • Comply with lab policies, CAP regulations, and state & federal requirements

  • Participate in training and demonstrating laboratory techniques to trainees and new employees

  • Perform duties in in support of anatomic pathology services as assigned REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified, or certified within two years from the date of hire, at the Technician level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists or the Microscopy Society of AmericaOR
