The Grad School has an outstanding opportunity for an Admissions and Recruitment Specialist to join their team.

The Admissions and Recruitment Specialist (payroll title: Program Operations Specialist) will independently manage prospective student outreach, recruitment, and admissions for the Master of Science in Data Science (MSDS) program. This specialist will be primarily responsible for developing, managing, and scaling the holistic MSDS admissions process, as well as developing and executing strategic recruitment and outreach efforts for one of the world’s most exciting and respected data science programs.

The MSDS program is more than a set of courses—it is the heart of a vibrant, engaged, and inclusive data science community of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and industry partners. The MSDS program prepares students to be excellent data science professionals in industry. We are seeking an Admissions and Recruitment Specialist to identify and bring new students into this data science community from a variety of academic, demographic, and professional backgrounds. The field of data science and the skills of professional data scientists are rapidly evolving, so this is a great opportunity to find new ways to engage prospective applicants.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Develop, manage, and refine the MSDS holistic admissions process: • Build a data-driven admissions strategy, set admission goals, and develop execution plans • Lead the admissions process o Review the application materials annually and update as needed o Assess the latest review process and update as needed to scalably implement holistic review for a large volume of applications o Manage application review assignments, and follow-ups o Direct and train program staff on application intake process o Plan and lead admissions meetings o Ensure timely communication of admissions information among faculty, staff, Graduate Enrollment Management Services, and other stakeholders • Analyze admissions data to streamline processes and identify outreach opportunities • Research best practices in holistic admissions, and application materials for other data science master's programs, to inform continuous improvements in UW MSDS admissions process

Outreach: • Research, document and implement knowledge of best practices for equity focused outreach • Develop and implement outreach strategies • Understand and address application and success barriers faced by communities historically underrepresented in data science and other quantitative fields

Recruitment: • Build authentic, ongoing, and mutual relationships with organizations identified in the MSDS program plan to support student recruitment • Maintain close and proactive contact with prospective students through the admissions process • Lead departmental recruitment and outreach efforts

Communications: • Develop, implement, and manage applicant communications strategy, including web materials, admissions information sessions, and other communication • Develop and improve web site content, marketing materials and other communications with the MSDS data science community • Manage vendors, inventory and budget for conference swag and other marketing materials

General Program Support: • Collaborate with MSDS staff to plan and execute program events • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in education, communications, technology, or a related field. Four years of related work experience to include three years of progressively responsible experience in admissions, university administration, communications or a related field

Additional Requirements: • Experience manipulating and analyzing data in a database or spreadsheet • Excellent writing, speaking, and listening skills to support the delivery of compelling public presentations and the development of high-impact outreach materials • Demonstrated ability to learn and use enterprise software systems • Flexibility and ability to function in unclear and rapidly changing environments • Experience working independently to solve problems and find answers with minimal supervision • Curiosity and openness to new ideas, new ways to work, and new perspectives

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements. DESIRED REQUIREMENTS • Experience working directly with multiple stakeholders, such as prospective applicants, students, and community members, from a variety of cultural and personal backgrounds • Experience managing large projects and/or processes • Demonstrated ability to delegate work to colleagues who are not direct reports • Experience with university admissions processes • Demonstrated success in cultivating an inclusive community • Interest in and experience working with communities underrepresented in higher education and/or quantitative professions

WORKING CONDITIONS • This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with up to 2 days per week of remote work available, as agreed with supervisor. Attendance at occasional evening program events will be required.
