Seattle Children's Hospital Accountant Senior, Foundation in Seattle, Washington

This position is a dedicated resource for Seattle Children’s Foundation and Guild Association. The role is expected to be a subject-matter resource for not-for-profit (NFP) accounting issues and will handle the day-to-day accounting functions for Seattle Children’s Foundation and Guild Association.

The Foundation Senior Accountant serves as a liaison between Seattle Children’s Foundation and Guild Association operational team and Seattle Children's’ Finance department – time is split between two work sites (Foundation offices and Children’s Finance offices). Attend meetings and raise accounting and compliance considerations and propose solutions to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and tax regulations. Work with Foundation staff to review, question and validate aspects of operations or planned initiatives that may have an accounting or compliance impact.

Assist with fundraising event accounting on an as-needed basis. Work with planners to prepare detailed event revenue and expense reports to be used for Form 990. Identify the expenses that provide benefit to attendees for preparation of the Audited Financials. Monitor the accounting for income related to tickets, sponsorships, merchandise sales and raffles to ensure that direct benefit revenues are recorded correctly. Prepare and send monthly and quarterly financial reports to administrators. Assist in assembling PBCs for the Foundation & Guild Association’s year-end Audit. Prepare Washington Annual Reports and Secretary of State registrations. Assist with reviewing state registrations for the Foundation. Assist Seattle Children’s Retail team in tracking large donations and non-cash gifts for accurate Form 990 reporting.

Establish and maintain standard work processes and policies for Seattle Children’s Foundation and Guild Association accounting to provide excellent service to internal and external customers. Assist with special projects and other finance related tasks on an ad-hoc basis including Finance department initiatives, management reporting and regulatory reporting.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in accounting, finance, or related position with progression of responsibilities.

  • Minimum two years of experience in NFP accounting required.

  • Experience providing direction and guidance on not-for-profit GAAP accounting and compliance matters in an assertive manner.

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • CPA.

  • Developing budgets, NFP strategic planning, fundraising events.

  • Designing and implementing processes and procedures.

  • Basic project management experience.

  • QuickBooks and converting cash-basis accounting data to accrual basis.

  • NFP-specific accounting topics such as fund accounting, net asset classification/release from restriction, contribution vs. exchange transactions, functional expense allocation, Form 990, Community Benefit reporting.

  • Compliance and operational aspects of nonprofits (i.e. state and local tax filings, solicitation of donors, unrelated business income, Form 990, financial statement audits).

  • Lawson ERP, report-building experience a plus.
