The College of Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for a Academic Director for MSTI to join their team. POSITION PURPOSE

The purpose of this full-time, in-person, permanent position is to develop, manage, and ensure world-class delivery of the University of Washington’s Master of Science in Technology Innovation (MSTI) graduate program and assist in the development of associated program options through the University of Washington’s Global Innovation Exchange (GIX), an engineering-and-business institute for emerging technology leaders located off-campus in Bellevue, Washington.

As a member of the senior leadership team at GIX, the Academic Director for MSTI is expected to provide professional management and administrative leadership that supports consistent program excellence for the MSTI, GIX’s flagship degree program. This role will partner with all staff and members of the faculty team to oversee curriculum delivery and critical program support functions on a day-to-day basis.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Academic Programs and working closely with MSTI teaching faculty and staff, the Academic Director for MSTI is responsible for quality assurance of all curricular and non-curricular services, including (but not limited to) financial and strategic program management, program marketing, applicant recruitment, enrollment management, student advising, career support and outcomes, student services, internal and external communications, and program-associated events and activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic and Financial Management

  • Own, plan, direct, manage, and oversee the MSTI program budget (i.e., instruction, course expenses, recruitment, materials and events).

  • Monitor budget vs. actuals for the program on a quarterly basis, and as needed, and report them to the Director of Finance and Operations in a timely fashion.

  • Ensure that program operations and outcomes support the strategic priorities of the Global Innovation Exchange, in concert with the College of Engineering and Foster School of Business.

  • Establish multi-year strategic goals and tactical plans to maintain and expand program excellence, enhance the student experience, and ensure program relevance in the STEM talent marketplace.

  • Engage in a portfolio of Global Tech Experience/Study Abroad Programs to ensure an excellent student experience.

  • Develop, implement, and oversee program policies that support program and organizational objectives and augment/align with UW policy environment.

  • Build and strengthen strategic relationships within the UW academic community, especially faculty and staff in the College of Engineering and Foster School of Business.Academic Program Management

  • Conduct ongoing and holistic evaluation of program performance including program marketing, applicant recruitment, candidate admissions, enrollment management, curriculum delivery, co-curricular services, and alumni career support.

  • Achieve key performance indicators for student academic outcomes and enrollment growth.

  • Work with faculty to ensure curricular excellence, an inclusive and compelling student learning experience, and a positive and cohesive teaching environment for faculty.

  • Recommend and implement new initiatives and services.

  • Monitor and report student satisfaction and progress of the academic experience; recommend actions in response to feedback. Directly engage with faculty as needed to resolve issues.

  • Partner with the Director of Partnerships and Engagement Programs on the MSTI capstone/launch projects program to manage the student experience and industry sponsor experience and satisfaction.

  • Supervise the Assistant Director of Academic Programs and the Academic Program Coordinator and develop long-term strategy and objectives in their student communications regarding academic program policies and expectations, advising, student services, extracurricular activities, and facilities and operations.

  • Supervise the MSTI Academic Services Team and create long-term plans for program activities that ensure effective engagement of students, student organizations, and the GIX DEI group to build community among students, to shape student community norms and deliver a great student experience.

  • Direct and assist MSTI recruitment and associated marketing staff in adopting and incorporating evidence-driven, best practices for higher education recruitment, including lead generation and management, as appropriate within GIX context and constraints.

  • Ensure the effective implementation of recruitment and marketing strategies for the MSTI program, including development and delivery of content and communications across all channels that support lead management strategy.

  • Lead efforts of the marketing and recruitment staff to ensure accurate and up-to-date program information for digital and other assets, inclusive of public-, student prospect-, applicant-, alumni-, and business community-facing sites.

  • Coordinate with facilities and operations staff to ensure smooth operation of academic program support including student, team, and course purchasing of supplies and materials.

  • Manage the relationship with the Tsinghua University leadership, faculty and staff to ensure that the MSTI’s Dual Degree program operations, communications and outcomes support the strategic priorities of the Global Innovation Exchange and partnership principles outlined in the MOU.

  • Represent MSTI faculty input and UW MSTI admissions requirements and objectives in Dual Degree admissions decisions.

  • Establish long-term strategy and supervise GIX career development and advising staff to develop and implement strategies for the preparation of MSTI graduates for a competitive professional employment market.Staff Supervision

  • Lead, coach, develop, mentor, and supervise a team of full-time staff assigned to supporting graduate programs at GIX; may include oversight for temporary, hourly, and student employees.

  • Implement professional development plans for full-time staff that encompass goals, program objectives, and staff growth.

  • Oversee the development and implementation of effective operating policies, procedures, and systems and data collection for academic and student services.

  • Hire staff, evaluate job performance, and take corrective action if performance is not acceptableSupervisory Responsibilities

  • This position supervises 4 professional staff positions who all support the Master of Science in Tech Innovation program. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's Degree in Business, Public Administration or related field.

  • Four years of leadership experience in a complex academic setting Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations and a commitment to an inclusive, collaborative work environment

  • Proficiency with financial and budgetary practices in an academic setting

  • Demonstrated success in supervisory and strategic management

  • Exemplary time-management and organizational skills and ability to work and thrive in a fast paced, energetic, entrepreneurial environment

  • Superior administrative skills including planning and problem solving

  • Excellent communication skills. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing relevant aspects of a professional master’s program, including program marketing, recruitment, admissions, enrollment, career management, student affairs, and program operations for at least six years.

  • Familiarity with UW administrative policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of UW curricular requirements.

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

  • Experience with fee-based, professional degree programs.

  • Experience with work-compatible graduate programs.
