The Student Services team at the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance has an outstanding opportunity for an Academic and Career Development Program Manager to join the team. The Student Services team is housed within the broader Office of Student Affairs at the Evans School.

Academic and Career Advisor counsels and advises students regarding academic planning, degree requirements, graduation requirements, readmission requirements, career options, and related matters. In this role, they will also support the development and execution of student programming in support of current Evans School students. The Academic and Career Development Program Manager will also collaborate with the broader Student Affairs team to provide a holistic student experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Academic Advising (50%)

  • Counsel and advise current students on academic planning, including course requirements, school policies and procedures, etc. Inform students about the final degree requirements, and other programming and requirements as relevant.

  • Support to the Director of Student Affairs with routine reports on enrollment and graduation data.

  • Maintain student and program records, including tracking spreadsheets for student satisfactory progress in the program, achievement of key academic milestones, tracking of fellowship and travel funding information students through SharePoint, EARS, MyGrad and SDB.

  • Manage the student services email account communicating with incoming and current students about resources, such as funding opportunities and campus events

  • Create, update and post weekly newsletter for all Evans School Students

  • Provide support for students who may benefit from referrals and connections to other campus resources and support structures to promote overall wellness and well-being.

  • Lead onboarding experience for newly admitted students.

  • Support the promotion of graduate certificates across UW departments

  • Implement updates to Student Handbooks

  • Support programmatic, operational, and advising changes continually centering anti-racism in student services best practices and educational offerings

  • Support the Student Services team with the planning and execution of student programming including New Student Orientation, EMPA Foundation Week, and Graduation

  • Maintain data on student funding information in collaboration with the fiscal and advancement team

  • Co-create experiences for Evans students that nurture a sense of belonging and overall student wellness.

  • Serve as lead for coordinating Graduation logistics including regalia management, graduation RSVP form, and sharing student information with Graduation CommitteeCareer Development (40%)

  • Provide career development advising to current students on topics including: assessing skills and strengths, writing strong resumes/cover letters, searching for jobs, building a network, leveraging LinkedIn, navigating career transitions, refining interview skills, negotiating job offers/salary, and marketing their degree.

  • Empower students to successfully manage their careers and advance professionally.

  • Monitor the Career Development evansjob@uw.edu email account and respond in timely fashion to all inquiries, including forwarding emails requiring immediate action.

  • Maintain current career resources and strategize with school leadership about new resources when needed.

  • Plan and present career development events which may include both virtual and in-person events in collaboration with the Student Services team.

  • Produce event materials and signage within Evans School brand guidelines.

  • Support the maintenance of Handshake for Evans School StudentsOperational Support (10%):

  • Serve and participate on Evans School and University committees as assigned or designated.

  • Carry out purchase order requests, supply order requests, and other purchasing and reimbursement requests.

  • Support Evans School events and participate fully in a fast-moving team environment where everyone is expected to roll-up their sleeves and contribute whenever possible.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Student Affairs or the Assistant Dean of Students

  • Other administrative duties in support of the Student Services team. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years work experience in higher education, academic advising, admissions, or related field. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, faculty, community, and industry partners

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience working with individuals from different cultural, ethnic, geographic, and experiential backgrounds

  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills

  • Possess ability to make independent decisions, to set priorities, organize time and problem-solve

  • Ability to manage a high volume of varied, detailed tasks simultaneously in a fast paced, deadline driven environment

  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to work responsibilities and the desire to interact extensively with colleagues while being flexible and self-motivated.

  • Ability to develop and maintain successful campus partnerships DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional experience in higher education, experience managing academic programs and interacting with industry in a higher education setting.

  • Familiarity with UW academic policies and procedures related to academics and curriculum for the undergraduate programs.

  • Thorough working knowledge of Student Databases, MyGrad, Microsoft Office Suite (SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).Work will be conducted in Parrington Hall with opportunities for a hybrid work schedule.
