Job Description

The Holland America Summer Internship Program is a 10-week paid (remote) summer internship opportunity designed to provide exposure and insight to professional careers in the amazing leisure travel, cruise industry. The selected interns will work on departmental projects as well as participate in professional development and enrichment activities.

Essential Functions

  • Coding, testing, and debugging software applications under the mentorship of experienced developers.

  • Migrate legacy code to modern technology stack using best practices and standards Deep dive analysis and ad hoc reporting.

  • Understand existing legacy web functionality.

  • Develop the legacy functionality using ReactJS and RestAPI, unit testing and test driven development.

  • Partner with QA team to integrated automated or manual testing.

  • Partner with dev ops to deploy code using Jenkins CI/CD pipeline.

  • Participate in agile development processes and team meetings.

2025 Program Dates

Program runs 10 weeks from June 16th - August 25th.

Eligibility

  • Eligible candidates are enrolled in a four-year accredited undergraduate program (where they are at least a rising junior) or in a graduate/Ph.D. program and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • MUST NOT be a graduating senior in the summer 2025.

Compensation

  • Undergraduate - $25.00/hr, Graduate - $35.00/hr, Ph.D. - $45.00/hr

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently, remotely and self-manage

  • Well organized and able to communicate effectively with colleagues and managers.

  • The types of duties the students will perform will vary and may require some technical tasks, projects and/or work that may require specific proficiencies, technical abilities and/or computer skills.

Majors Preferred

  • Computer Science

Skills Required

  • Advanced coursework and hands-on experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design.

  • Hands on experience with UI technologies HTML-5, JavaScript/TypeScript, XML, JSON, and RESTful Web Services.

  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development lifecycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, and real-time communication).

  • Strong coding skills, with the ability to produce high quality code that is reusable and repeatable without being overly complex.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, programming and written and verbal English communication skills.

  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development lifecycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, and real-time communication).

  • Hands-on experience with ReactJs a plus.
