About the role
As an AIG Risk Engineering Associate, you have the opportunity to experience two different roles within AIG’s Risk Consulting practice. Field Risk Engineering and Account Risk Engineering both play a vital role in helping our clients manage risk and our ability to provide market leading insurance products by working hand in hand with our underwriters.
Field Risk Engineers are responsible for working on site with clients to identify risks to their business such as fire, flood, windstorm, equipment breakdown etc. One day you may be on site at a metal working facility, the next, a university campus. After the survey is complete, it’s time to tap into those strong analytical skills and develop real world loss prevention solutions to keep our clients in business!
Account Risk Engineers are responsible for managing our clients at the corporate level. They work directly with decision makers to help them understand the risks associated with their business and prioritize risk management opportunities. The account engineer is responsible for developing an in-depth analysis of the client’s operation, including any existing hazards and recommendations. This analysis is in turn used by underwriting to develop a comprehensive insurance policy specific to our client’s needs.
Travel to observe property loss prevention surveys at commercial facilities
Assist field risk engineering mentors to document survey results in a data-driven report writing application
Witness fire protection equipment testing
Assist account risk engineering mentors in the documentation of account reviews in a data-driven application
If the opportunity presents, attend a client service meeting with engineering, underwriting, broker, and client
Work on assigned projects in support of engineering and underwriting
What we’re looking for:
AIG seeks candidates who have excelled in previous work experience, demonstrated outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement, and who enjoy about learning project management skills that can be applied to any role or job function.
The ideal candidates will be bold thinkers with an entrepreneurial spirit, and will possess a powerful blend of technical skills, on-going learning, statistical & financial acumen and adaptive communication, empathy, and listening skills.
We also look for a diverse background of experience, culture, and thought. Successful candidates have good communication skills and work well in a team environment.
Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics, to be received no later than June 2024
Strong communication (both oral and written)
Highly motivated and works well without close supervision.
Ability to build cross-functional relationships
Ability to communicate effectively with people of varying levels of technical understanding
Ability to complete assignments on-time.
Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments
Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials
Possess at minimum of at least one year of driving experience with a valid U.S. driver’s license
Ability to perform physical activities required for the position (i.e., be on feet and walking 8-10 hours a day, safely work at heights)
Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards
Ability to safely use ladders, scaffolds, lifts and other access equipment
Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs
Ability to perform work in the outdoors
Ability to wear safety equipment required for the position (hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection)
Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations
Ability to type at a computer for several hours a day
Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle
Program Start Date
The Early Careers Professional Associate program will start at the end of July 2024.
Early Career Professional Associate positions are in-person opportunities and are available in Seattle. When we work in the office, we experience greater connections with opportunities to collaborate, innovate, and learn together.
The base salary range for this position is $58,500 - $78,000. However, the final base salary offered to a candidate may be higher or lower than the range depending on a number of factors, including the candidate’s specific work location. This position is also eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
