Grant Accountant - Posting #25800
Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000
Position Summary:
Full-time Grant Accountant position available in Seattle. The Grant Accountant performs variety of specific tasks within the accounting and administrative departments with a primary focus on federal, state, county, and city grant financial reporting and management. The Grant Accounting Coordinator’s primary responsibility is coordinating compliance and reporting requirements among the various Sea Mar departments that receive specific grant funding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Update and maintain grant management sub-ledger (grant accounting module) and interface into general ledger. Must track reporting requirements and deadlines for all contracts and grants. Prepare timely reports and invoices for all grants and contracts or coordinate with responsible parties to ensure reports are submitted. Prepare journal entries for month-end close, including the close of sub-ledgers to the general ledger. Reconcile grant revenue and receivable account (Balance Sheet/Income Statement). Investigate and resolve other general ledger account variances as assigned and assist with preparation and tracking of grant application budgets.

Qualifications:
Practical knowledge of GAAP and thorough knowledge and understanding of financial systems and internal financial controls
Experience with automated accounting software
Intermediate to advanced competency in Microsoft applications including Excel, Word and Outlook
Knowledge of financial operations, laws and terminology
Strong interpersonal skills with a high degree of analytical ability
Ability to design, analyze, and prepare financial reports
Accurate with attention to detail, ability to multi-task, highly organized
Enthusiasm for learning and process improvement
Ability to work well in a fast-paced professional office environment
Team player and open communicator
Common sense
Self-motivated toward continuous improvement
Thorough understanding of accounting principles
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor degree with more than three years grants administration experience.
Preferred experience with accounting processes and procedures.
Work experience in a mid-size to large organization (public accounting or non-profit)
Minimum two years’ experience demonstrating increased complexity and responsibility.
Must have excellent data entry skills, 10-key by touch
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret complex documents, reports and data
Excellent verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with staff, executive management, external auditors and other persons outside the organization with whom Sea Mar maintains a business relationship
Exercises sound spelling and grammar to conduct clear written communication
Must have the ability to assess risk and report research findings to staff, executive management or external auditors in either verbal, written or visual presentations
