Role Summary
The Senior Revenue Accountant is a subject matter expert in accounting operations at Alaska Airlines. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to own complex data mining and analysis, journal entries, account reconciliations and preparation of internal and external reports, and provides recommendations to address complex accounting issues and problems.
Key Duties
Acts as a subject matter expert in accounting operations.
Makes recommendations to address accounting system and process improvement initiatives to drive workflow efficiencies and streamline operations, and to enhance the loss prevention rules engine used to proactively identify fraud.
Applies deep knowledge in accounting operations to serve as the primary liaison and subject matter expert for functional users of multiple, complex database tools used to analyze credit card merchant fees and chargeback losses.
Manages execution of monthly journal entries for complex, material, passenger ticket and fee transactions in accordance with department policies and procedures.
With minimal direction from leadership, exercises considerable judgment to prepare complete and accurate reconciliations of key, high-risk balance sheet accounts, monthly account balance fluctuation analyses, and budget/forecast variance analyses.
Guides, influences and coaches accounting staff and assists with training of new staff.
Compiles the monthly department budget variance analysis and then analyzes material variances.
Produces and distributes sales and revenue statistical reports to key decision makers throughout the company.
Prepares reconciliations of transportation taxes and collaborates with Tax department regarding remittances to various governmental agencies.
Prepares audit schedules and assists with coordination of internal and external financial audits, SOX compliance reviews, and government agency ticket tax audits.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
3 years of experience in “Big 4” public accounting, or 4 years of experience in general accounting or related area.
Bachelor’s degree with a focus in accounting, business administration or a related discipline, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Demonstrated knowledge of technical accounting procedures, revenue recognition and deferral processes, month end closing, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
Excellent analytical skills to effectively evaluate data, identify variances, and resolve discrepancies.
Ability to independently manipulate data sources to create actionable analysis and/or reports.
Proven ability to plan, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks concurrently and within deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all customer information.
Excellent communication skills (e.g., written and verbal) and the ability to interact with people at all levels of the company.
Proficiency with Microsoft Access and Hyperion Explorer/BRIO, or other data query software tools, data file transfers, and data manipulation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other common applications.
High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum age of 18
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
4 years of data analysis experience.
Experience with Visio, SharePoint, PeopleSoft General Ledger, and Blackline Systems.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), CPA candidacy, or other accounting certifications.
Airline industry experience.

Salary Range
$82,950 -- $124,450 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
