Role Summary

This role is responsible for developing seasonal capacity plans at Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. As an individual contributor, the Network Planning Team Lead drives the seasonal capacity planning process by guiding and supporting analysts to build, iterate, and optimize market frequencies in line with Alaska Air Group’s overall network strategy.

Key Duties

  • Manages the seasonal capacity planning process, including frequency iteration that captures input from a broad cross-section of commercial teams. Plays anchor role in optimizing the financial performance for Alaska Air Group’s network.

  • Trains analysts on forecasting methodologies, tools, and airline economic concepts, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking.

  • Leads analysts to establish financial forecasts and data-based justification for all capacity changes.

  • Partners with scheduling teams to ensure that seasonal schedules drive optimal commercial outcomes for the route network.

  • Builds compelling presentations that tell Alaska’s network story to senior executives including Alaska’s Executive Committee.

  • Develops novel strategies to optimize capacity across the entire Air Group network.

  • Devises booking schedule strategies and actively works to ensure what is out for sale appropriately reflects the schedules we intend to operate.

  • Works closely with Revenue Management, Corporate Real Estate, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Crew Planning, and other internal groups on collaborative projects.

  • Provides ad-hoc analysis and reporting in support of commercial planning decisions, company presentations, and internal and external communications.

  • Supports relationships with external partners, including air service development teams.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 4 years of analytics, financial, network, and/or schedule planning experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in airline fundamentals and economics.

  • Knowledge of modeling/forecasting methodology and systems.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.

  • Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) to all levels of the organization, including the ability to produce executive level presentations and communication materials.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Expert analytical skills and understanding of analytical processes.

  • Airline planning experience.

  • Experience with Sabre Schedule Manager or other airline scheduling software.

  • Strategic scenario development and opportunity cost analysis experience.

  • Ability to alternate between strategic, tactical, and operational perspectives while working on projects and to quickly determine long, medium and, short impact of proposed solutions.

  • Ability to think strategically and see “the big picture” while understanding the details.

  • Ability to operate as a self-starter to set priorities consistent with departmental goals and work independently.

Salary Range

$112,000 - $168,000 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
