Port of Seattle Capital Project Manager IV in Seatac Airport, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

As a Capital Project Manager IV in our Aviation Project Management Group, you will work independently to manage projects with a high degree of technical complexity. Your projects may also be of significant size and scope or are a major part of a large capital program.

  • You will lead, direct, and manage the implementation of multiple highly complex, politically sensitive, and controversial capital projects that involve complicated and unique funding and permitting process. The projects will involve Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, and Electrical systems and or facilities.

  • You will effectively lead, manage, and facilitate capital construction projects from approval to completion and will lead teams of multiple disciplines.

  • You will facilitate project planning meetings to discuss and determine project objectives, develop program plans, define project scope, and recommend budget resources.

  • You will develop, negotiate, and manage complex consultant contracts, budgets, schedules for design and construction as well as oversee the consultant selection process while meeting the Port’s Diversity in Contracting goals.

  • You will present projects to Senior Managers, Investment Committee, and Commission at each stage of approval and provide project status reports.

  • You will develop, negotiate, and manage highly complex consultant contracts, budgets, schedules for design and construction and formulate strategic communication plan to respond to the public and other government entities.

  • You will represent the Port in complex negotiations with local, federal, and state agencies, tenants, affected communities and will ensure that complex environmental permits are obtained.

  • You will act as an expert advisor and provide technical and professional consultations to business units and Port leadership on issues related to assigned projects.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have eight (8) years of construction project management experience.

  • Educated – You possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Desired – We hope you have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, architecture, or any related field, or Professional Engineering License in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and experience managing large complex projects in a politically sensitive, complex funding and permitting environment.

  • Relationship Builder – You have well-developed conflict resolution and facilitation skills including working effectively with people at all levels of the organization and elected officials.

What else you need to know:

  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

  • Work Environment – This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

  • Grade Review – The pay range and grade for non-represented positions are under review and subject to change as part of the Port’s work to implement a new pay program. This review is intended to ensure that positions are aligned with the new program that will be implemented in early 2024.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
