Salesforce's Office of Ethical and Humane Use is hiring a Director of Product Management to play a pivotal role in the development of product and business processes around the Ethical and Humane Use of Salesforce technology. Working together with the Sr. Director, Ethical & Humane Use, the Chief Ethical & Humane Use Officer, and the ethical use team, they will deliver processes and guidelines that shape the creation and use of our technology in alignment with Salesforce’s ethical use principles.

The ideal candidate will have experience and understanding of ethics in the development of technology products (with a special emphasis on emerging technology) and expertise in consensus-building among diverse teams. The candidate will lead key aspects of Salesforce’s ‘ethics by design’ work with internal engineering, product, and design teams; with Salesforce implementation partners; and with influential industry organizations who shape ethical guidelines for the industry.

This role will focus on Salesforce’s largest lines of business - the B2B CRM - including but not limited to Service Cloud, Sales Cloud, and Vaccine Cloud. We are looking for a candidate with experience working in B2B areas, particularly customer service, workforce automation, and privacy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Single-threaded owner leading the adoption of technical and product-led approaches to mitigating ethical risk and capturing ethical opportunity in our products and services by partnering with Product, Engineering, Design, and Distribution teams.

  • Identify potential unintended negative consequences in a product roadmap, technical specification, or design mockup, then identify how those consequences might be mitigated and drive prioritization of those mitigations into a partner team’s roadmap. Conversely, identify positive ethical impacts in a roadmap/specification/design and work to amplify in the product.

  • Cultivate a culture of ‘moral muscle memory’ among Salesforce tech, product, design, GTM, and partner teams by teaching and coaching colleagues on ethical use best practices.

  • Work collaboratively across all aspects of the business, including Product Management, Technology, Legal, and Policy

  • Represent Salesforce and the Office of Ethical and Humane Use to both internal and external stakeholders, including executives, employees, civil society groups, customers, and industry forums

Job Requirements/Skills Required

  • Understanding of best practice for how to integrate considerations around ethics and unintended consequences into the design, development, and delivery of technological products. Experience working across teams of engineers, designers, user researchers, and product managers.

  • Technical depth. Deep familiarity with software engineering, product management, and product design best practices, including but not limited to database design, data privacy standards, inclusive design, etc.

  • Deep familiarity with emerging technologies and trends (AI, data ethics, data privacy, workforce automation, etc.)

  • Experience architecting and driving large-scale, complex strategic initiatives - take a complex problem, synthesize detailed information from multiple sources, and construct a nuanced top-line recommendations on the path forward, even when the question at hand is a difficult one.

  • Has the ability to see a large business-impacting challenge, jump in, and drive the change that results in significant improvements to the organization - with a combination of attention to detail without getting lost in the weeds.

  • Strong communication skills. Comfortable presenting ideas to diverse teams and individuals in multiple formats, from slide decks to informal chats.

  • Earns trust in relationships both internally and externally, and at all levels of the organization. Challenges the status quo to improve the productivity, effectiveness, and culture of a team - without burning bridges.

  • As a member of a start-up team, as happy driving the strategy for a priority area as you are managing the details of a key program or event. Embrace ambiguity and look for the opportunity in any situation.

Skills Desired

  • 10+ years business experience with current / frequent CXO or board level engagement.

  • Strong experience leading multi-disciplinary teams driving significant business results

  • A passion for the idea that technology can be a force for social good.

  • Knowledge of enterprise SaaS space.

  • Preferred - Working knowledge of Salesforce & products.
