Job Duties/Scope Of Work The Hanford Site is located in southeastern Washington State. It was established in 1943 to produce the world's first atomic bomb in the Second World War and continued producing plutonium for the Cold War efforts from 1945 to 1991. Today, the Hanford Site mission is focused on environmental cleanup. HMIS is responsible for providing a variety of Hanford Site Services, including a site-wide emergency management program. HMIS Emergency Management & Preparedness (EM&P) provides coordination, integration, and maintenance of a program capable of coping with the spectrum and severity of Hanford Site emergencies that could affect onsite and offsite areas. HMIS EM&P is looking for a capable, dynamic, and motivated individual who shares a passion for emergency management and to be part of a diverse team. The critical thinking required for this role will further develop the intern's skillset, particularly in the area of emergency planning and mitigation. The Co-Op Intern will perform a multitude of entry level duties supporting various elements of the HMIS EM&P organization. Work activities will include but are not limited to: •Participation in technical planning for hazards on the Hanford Site •Maintenance of a virtual Emergency Operations Center •Planning, coordinating, and conducting various assessments and surveillances •Implementing and maintaining programmatic and drill requirements for general purpose facilities •May also participate in a variety of roles supporting the Hanford Site Exercise Program Basic Qualifications •Intern should be pursuing a degree in Emergency Management, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Math, Physics, Engineering, Business, or related field of study •Demonstrate an interest in learning emergency management processes with real-world applications •Must be at least 18 years of age •Must have at least one college term completed, be currently enrolled as a full-time student, and have maintained an overall GPA of 2.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale) •Be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week •Must live within a commutable distance from the work site (Federal Building in Richland, Washington) Desired Qualifications •Possess a strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills •Excellent computer skills and strong writing abilities Compensation & Benefits Freshman: $16.60 Sophomore: $20.33 Junior: $20.76 Senior: $24.496 In accordance with the HMIS wage determination process, offers will be made by taking into consideration the degree program the candidate is currently enrolled in - or - scope of work the position will perform, grade level in school (freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior) as well as the external labor market. A candidate's salary history will not be used in compensation decisions. The starting rates, and ranges listed (if applicable) represent the full wage scale that maybe offered for this position. In accordance with the Service Contract Act, this position is eligible for the health & welfare adder of up to $4.57 per hour.
