Job Description

The Technology Advocate is responsible for coordinating outreach activities dedicated to helping PNNL users take full advantage of technology resources and services provided by CIT. The Technology Advocate will lead the development of feedback loops, training, and communications activities related to new technology deployments. S/he will work with PNNL users and various CIT resources to contribute positively to a culture of collaboration, innovation, and transparency between CIT and various PNNL Business partners. The user-centric focus in research, design, and implementation of various technologies is a differentiator for IT@PNNL and will be a differentiator for the successful candidate.

The Technology Advocate is part of CIT’s effort to elevate the client experience through communications and training for all the services our Directorate provides to the PNNL community. This role includes coordination and collaboration with various resources across the CIT Directorate to help PNNL users take full advantage of technology resources and services provided by our Directorate. S/he will develop and deliver various activities and events which will enhance how PNNL users take advantage of new technology to become more effective in their work.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the outreach, communication, and training efforts to improve user’s experience and satisfaction with new technology deployments.

  • Coordinate in-person outreach activities to promote CIT services and technology resources.

  • Coordinate and support a strong PNNL presence and visibility of in-person services provided by our TechDesk locations.

  • Develop feedback loops to evaluate customer satisfaction, successes, and challenges with CIT services and technology and make recommendations for improvement.

  • Coordinate various in-person and online events that educate PNNL users about technology resources and assist with technology questions.

  • Build partnerships and collaborations with key PNNL organizations

  • Work with business partners to disseminate materials, understand needs, and discuss technology improvement areas.

  • Coordinate IT training development and delivery by 3rd party vendors and internal resources.

  • Analyze TechDesk and other organizational data to identify problem areas and develop outreach activities to support users in these areas.

  • Coordinate the development of training materials and programs to support new and updated technology introduced to the campus by CIT, focusing on staff needs.

  • Assist in designing and executing employee on-boarding experience, focused on establishing familiarity with accounts, applications, services, and technology policies.

  • Conduct training events using knowledge of instructional technology and the principles, practices, and techniques of training adult learners

  • Collaborate with Communications to create, and maintain various communications channels, including but not limited to newsletters, forum posts, emails, and handouts.

  • Works with TechDesk staff to maintain Knowledge Base.

  • Develop and execute communication plans to promote and showcase CIT projects, initiatives, maintenance, training, and support

  • Collaborate closely with CIT staff members to coordinate department campaigns across traditional and digital media, including print, website, email, video, and social platforms.

  • Create content, messaging, and other collateral that supports a consistent voice for CIT.

  • Keep up with best practices and trends in the outreach, communications, and training areas.

  • Leading organizational teams that proactively identify and promote new capabilities within a division and S&E domain, and advance the directorate strategy.

  • Sought after within PNNL for technical leadership to set technical direction.

  • Leading through operational assignments that benefit the group.

  • Selects and develops technical approaches to complex challenges.

The hiring level will be determined based on the education, experience and skill set of the successful candidate based on the following:

Technology Advocate (IT Engineer level 3):

Established local reputation with specialization in at least one S&E domain. Making key contributions in setting technical direction. Developing and optimizing capabilities at the division level. Developing external reputation. Building effective project teams with membership across a group, S&E domain and/or directorate. Contributing to the local organization through mentorship of junior staff and taking on operational assignments.

Technology Advocate (IT Engineer level 4):

Expert in at least one S&E domain and the ability to connect multiple domains. Sought after within PNNL for technical leadership to set technical direction. Using established cross organizational network, external peers, and clients to further outcomes. Leading organizational teams that proactively identify and promote new capabilities within a division and S&E domain and advance the directorate strategy. Mentoring staff and peers across directorate. Leading through operational assignments that benefit the group and directorate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or PhD with 1 year of experience . A minimum of 13 years of relevant work experience may be considered.

  • Exceptional communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 7 years of experience, Master's degree with 5 years of experience, or PhD with 3 years of experience. A minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience may be considered.

  • Exceptional communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
