Project Overview:

Located in Southeastern Washington State, on the Hanford reservation, The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era. The WTP project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

Role Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to): Primary engineering activities will be to provide the engineering design for HLW electrical systems and equipment for the entire facility in preparation for procurement and construction. This work includes the use of SETROUTE, BlockDraw and ETAP for the HLW design. Individual must have extensive understanding of all engineering discipline drawings and electrical discipline wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, system descriptions, system calculations, 1-line and 3-line drawings, schematics, electrical equipment layout and be able to size equipment and perform cable sizing calculations. Performs special tasks and calculations/studies. Conducts checking as required. Properly interprets and applies codes & standards and customer design requirements, for applicability to electrical design documents, specifications, material requisitions and system descriptions related to design tasks. Ability to cope with conflicting deadline, frequent interruptions and multiple tasks.

Qualification – Education:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, from an accredited university, with 9 years of related electrical engineering experience.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience with ETAP and other industry wide electrical system design tools, such as CAD 2D and cable designing and routing software.

  • EIT Certification or able to obtain within 12 months of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge & application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.

  • Extensive knowledge on electrical systems, schematics and electrical equipment layouts.

  • Extensive knowledge on electrical equipment specification and material requisitions process and developing procurement documentation in BPS.

  • Experience with an electronic Cable Management System.

  • Experience with Microsoft WINDOWS suite of programs and other common computer programs.

  • Must be a self-starter and capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry proven concepts, and procedures.

  • Must work well with others, other disciplines, and groups. Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections to the data base.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate, and work well with others and within a team. Must be able to work well with other disciplines and functions.

  • Lead or supervisory experience. (preferred)

  • Previous project experience with DoD or DoE is preferred.

  • US Citizenship Required.
