WRPS, the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site, is the largest environmental cleanup organization in the world with numerous dynamic engineering teams coordinated between nuclear operations and other critical projects in hopes to serve the WRPS mission. The mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste dating back to the Manhattan Project and Cold War. You will gain the fundamental engineering knowledge critical to executing a complex multi-disciplined effort to cleanup radioactive and hazardous waste. The complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrating engineering organization. Engineering at WRPS consists of Process Engineering, Design Engineering, Nuclear Safety, Plant/System Engineering, Construction Project Engineering, Flowsheet Integration, Process and Control Systems, and the Chief Technology Office.

The Electrical Engineer works in the Tank Farm Project and Chief Technology Office Organization, supporting the Tank Farms Projects (TFP) Engineering team, working closely with project engineers, project managers and internal/external agencies. This position will work within the Tank Farm Projects Engineering group supporting a wide variety of infrastructure and technology development and deployment projects using innovative approaches to solving complex technical challenges. The successful candidate will interface with other engineering groups to execute and implement upgrades and part of Tank Farm Projects.

Electrical engineers are responsible for providing engineering support to the WRPS mission within the Engineering Organization. Duties of the electrical engineer will typically include design, specification, analysis, testing, fabrication support, monitoring, and maintenance of electrical systems. Electrical power and control systems are resident in all existing tank farm facilities and new facilities under design and construction

Tasks include coordinating engineering aspects of their assigned projects to include performing field walk downs, interfacing with craft/field crews, development of Engineering Change Documentation and Statements of Work (SOW) as well as working with various internal and external design A&E and fabrication vendors.

The Electrical Engineer filling these roles will:

  • Ensure compliance of electrical system aspects of projects including design, application, testing, preparation of specifications for systems, materials, equipment or components in collaboration with other engineering/science competencies within the team.

  • Develop and sustain productive customer relationships.

  • Prepare Statements of Work, design products, procurements, specifications, etc.

  • Lead teams or function as a team member consisting of both internal and external resources.

  • Understand engineering work assignments and to be self-directed.

  • Be customer service oriented, completing assignments safely, on time, and within budget.

  • Provide technical guidance to subcontractors in the execution of design (e.g., ensure use of correct design inputs, utilization of accepted analysis methodologies, design standards, and verification methods).

  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior staff members and interns.

Required Qualifications

Grade 20:

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline; and

Ten (10) years of related experience

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.

Grade 21:

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline; and

Twelve (12) years of related experience

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a nuclear facility or nuclear project.

  • Experience with NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace

Compensation & Benefits

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.

Hiring Range Minimum: $126,025

Hiring Range Maximum: $174,900
