Project Overview:

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, Monday-Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed. Also, the selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work night shift (5:30 pm to 4:00 am) and weekends as needed.

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.

Job Summary:

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC), Commissioning and Operations (C&O) Quality Control Inspector (QC) Direct Feed Low-Activity Waste (DFLAW), functionally reports to the C&O QC Inspection Manager. The QC Inspector is responsible for performing inspection activities for maintenance activities, operation activities, and other assigned activities within the C&O Quality Assurance Manual (QAM) in support of commissioning, and operations. QC Inspector assures oversight of the proper use of WTCC processes, procedures, and their implementation.

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works either a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. or an alternating 4 x12 schedule. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work night shift and weekends as needed. #LI-SF1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads activities of subordinate quality control inspectors, and other quality department personnel, as assigned.

  • Possesses responsibility for the Commissioning and Operations quality control program activities within an assigned area of responsibility.

  • Determines requirements for, and directs preparation of, technical and administrative documents and reports.

  • Performs inspections and documents acceptance of maintenance and operations activities and installations.

  • Identifies nonconforming items and corrective action requirements.

  • Initiates nonconformance reports and monitors status through to closure of corrective action.

  • Maintains quality control records in support of activities in the assigned area of responsibility

  • Implements procedures and policies established by others and develops procedures, as required, for the performance of assigned functions.

  • Monitors and documents activities of other Organizations ensuring they comply with project processes and procedures.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Initial QC Inspector capabilities include evaluation of education, experience, training, and either test results or capability demonstration. Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

  • Department of Energy, NRC, or Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience preferred.

  • Candidate should be proficient in at least one of the following inspection disciplines (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Instrument and Controls)

  • Possess sufficient background, knowledge, and training or demonstrated capability, to cross train, and become certified in the other disciplines.

  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.

  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in implementing DOE Quality Assurance requirements (DOE O 414.1X), or equivalent work at DOE equivalent facilities. (Examples of DOE equivalent facilities: include Department of Defense, Nuclear and Chemical Processing Facilities.)

  • The desired basis of certification/qualification is ASME NQA-1-2008.
