POSITION DESCRIPTION The Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer for WRPS is responsible for providing quality assurance engineering services in support of Hanford Tanks Waste Operations and Closure (H2C) activities. The main duties include, but are not limited to: Supports effective implementation of DOE 414.1, 10 CFR 830 Subpart A, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) NQA-1, and other contract commitments. Applies understanding of the Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSR) to facilitate review and approve safety basis documents. Perform annual reviews and updates core QMS documents; Develop and maintain procedures, training material, desktop guides, and other implementing tools. Plan, schedule, and participate/lead QA program audits (consistent with certifications), surveillances, and assessments. Support elements of the Contractor Assurance Systems (e.g., internal assessments, independent assessments, cause analyses, and corrective action programs). Plan and execute management requested surveillance and audit activities to investigate improvement opportunities or negative activities/trends related to ongoing or past project or vendor performance. Makes decisions using principles and professional independent judgment. Analyze, evaluate, and plans methods of approach and organizes means to solve complex technical problems. Conducts investigations of considerable complexity and reviews complex projects, processes and evaluates results. Maintain requirement flow down for applicable QA documents Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide required products or services. May specialize in particular area of quality engineering, such as chemistry, environmental science, process control, supplier evaluation, research and development, laboratory quality, or administrative application. Provides technical consultation to lower-level engineers, technicians, and inspectors. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Engineering, Science or related field and 10+ years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Ability to work in a diverse work environment. Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening. Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Previous experience on DOE sites and programs. Qualified QA Engineer. Certified NQA-1 Lead Assessor/Auditor. Possess strong risk-based decision-making skills. Effective written, listening, and oral communication skills. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of applications. Knowledge to interpret design documents (e.g., specifications). Experience working at the Hanford Tank Farms, in a similar Department of Energy (DOE) environment, or a nuclear facility. Familiar with IBM Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS).
