Job Responsibilities/Duties

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site whose mission is to safely manage 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous tank waste and prepare the systems needed to feed waste to the Waste Treatment Plant (WTP). Tank Farm Projects (TFP) executes safe and compliant projects needed to support the Tank Operations Contract mission. The TFP organization performs design, procurement, construction, testing and turnovers of all field project activities. The organization is structured to utilize an Integrated Project Team approach, which includes supporting functional organizations.

WRPS TFP seeks a Project Manager that applies extensive and diversified knowledge of Project Management principles and practices in assignments and related work. The specific duties and responsibilities of the Project Manager include but are not limited to:

  • Complete WRPS Project Manager qualification and act as a fully competent project manager in all conventional aspects of managing small to medium, non-stand-alone Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), capital improvement or facility/infrastructure upgrade projects from initiation through closeout in accordance with quality standards and requirements;

  • Complete WRPS Control Account Manager (CAM) qualification and perform CAM duties for projects assigned;

  • Develop the scope, schedule, and budget baselines. Implement change management and Earned Value Management System (EVMS) methods to maintain baselines and report on results;

  • Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represent the department in conferences to resolve important questions and coordinate work;

  • Demonstrate interpolative thinking, utilize advanced techniques, modifications or extensions to practiced theories, and is generally seasoned technically;

  • Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria;

  • May function as lead Project Manager on a task force or special assignment, coordinating the activities of task force Project Managers and Engineers from the discipline specialty;

  • Contribute to development of new concepts, techniques, and standards;

  • Considered expert in field within the organization. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills needed to facilitate project milestones;

  • Must be able to communicate with peers and management clearly and concisely;

  • Must take prompt action to accomplish assigned objectives and understand/identify issues and opportunities;

  • Identify and evaluate potential scope changes and implements change management process as necessary;

  • Advise management of developments that could impact project scope, schedule, costs, and client relations;

  • Provide project performance presentations to senior management and the client;

  • Ensure Integrated Safety Management Systems (ISMS) Principles are incorporated into organization's activities;

  • May act as a change agent to ensure ISMS principles are incorporated into organization activities efficiently, and lessons learned are applied to improve future projects;

  • Comply with WRPS policies and procedures; and

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Grade 20:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering or related discipline; and

  • Ten (10) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Grade 21:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering or related discipline; and

  • Twelve (12) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Grade 22:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering or related discipline; and

  • Fifteen (15) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.

Desired Qualifications

  • Project Manager Professional Certification from the Project Management Institute is preferred.

  • Knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, software.

  • Ability to understand and interpret various electrical and mechanical documents, blueprints, drawings and schematics.

  • Extensive understanding of facility processes, systems and equipment.

  • Knowledgeable of EVMS as implemented by Department of Energy (DOE).

Grade 20:

Hiring Range Minimum: $126,025

Hiring Range Maximum: $158,875

Grade 21:

Hiring Range Minimum: $138,700

Hiring Range Maximum: $174,900

Grade 22:

Hiring Range Minimum: $155,625

Hiring Range Maximum: $204,775

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
