Job Responsibilities/Duties
Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) manages one of the most challenging radioactive waste cleanup projects in the country. Our focus is reducing the environmental risk posed by 54 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste stored in 177 underground tanks on the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. Join us today and be a part of history!
Tank inventories are created through integrating characterization data, process knowledge, and surveillance data to estimate double-shell and single-shell tank waste composition by phase. Data is made available to users via a database and associated suite of tools. Further activities include preparing sampling and analysis plans and data quality objectives for waste sampling and characterization events for the tank farm contractor; integrating with analytical laboratories regarding sample breakdown and analysis; review of analytical data, and interpretation of chemical data for the double and single-shell tanks. The group also coordinates technical and programmatic aspects with multiple internal and external interfacing organizations. The role may also provide support to the Liquid Effluent Retention Facility inventory and waste acceptance criteria. Company priorities may result in assignment of additional/alternate responsibilities or duties.
The employee will facilitate and prepare the data quality objectives (DQO) process as outlined in the United States (U.S.) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), EPA QA/G-4, "Guidance on Systematic Planning Using the Data Quality Objectives Process." The objective of the DQO Process is to define the appropriate type and quantity of data to be collected for the intended use based on an acceptable consequence level of a wrong decision made based on the collected data. The process uses the knowledge and synergy of a team consisting of data users, subject matter experts, and stakeholders in a structured approach to achieve concurrence on sampling and analysis objectives.
The employee will prepare Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs) which combine applicable DQOs into a single set of sampling and analytical requirements to include sample type, number and location of samples, and sample analysis.
Preparing DQOs and SAPs requires outstanding verbal and written communication. The employee will facilitate decision making in diverse teams of subject matter experts in potentially stressful situations. This position will routinely coordinate sampling and analysis needs between data users, stakeholders, quality assurance, sampling operations, and the laboratory.
Other duties include:
*Prepare and administer sampling program requirements via Quality Assurance documents, procedures, and assessments.
*Review and reconcile characterization data.
*Develop chemical inventories of waste tanks using sample data, process knowledge, and model data.
*Create spreadsheets and supporting calculations documents.
