Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is recruiting a creative, energetic, and collaboration-oriented postdoctoral scientist to improve process-level understanding of ice-nucleating particles (INPs) associated with agricultural soils. The successful candidate will conduct and analyze measurements of ice nuclei and aerosol properties in two small-scale field campaigns.

The successful candidate will be expected to publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals, to interact directly with a rich network of experts in areas such as atmospheric processes, surface-atmosphere interactions, modelling, and observations, and to effectively communicate research results at conferences and workshops.

.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated experience with measurement of atmospheric aerosols and/or ice nuclei, such as single-particle mass spectrometry, continuous flow diffusion chambers, or other methods

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams as well as ability to independently pursue original ideas and new directions

Interest in contributing to an active intellectual environment

Demonstrated record of publications in peer reviewed journals

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants who have skills and experience in some of the following areas, and who are interested in developing new skills in additional areas, are encouraged to apply:

Demonstrated expertise in atmospheric aerosol chemistry and microphysics, and ice nucleation

Experience with computer languages usually used for data analysis in atmospheric sciences (Python, R, NCL, or other analysis languages), and statistical analysis methods

Familiarity with models and analysis of atmospheric transport and physical processes

Familiarity with Linux/Unix computational environments

Ability to think critically and develop and test hypotheses using a combination of measurements and models

PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Physics, or a related field.
