Job Description

The student will work in primarily an analytical capacity on multiple large datasets including meteorological data, chemical species sample concentration data, and chemical filter performance data; with the potential to participate in testing opportunities. The work will focus on establishing and implementing a procedure for evaluating and representing the complexity of gaseous chemical mixtures succinctly based on historical information and recent sampling data. The analysis will aide in the overall evaluation of the impact to vapor-solid interactions by these complex mixtures along with other related areas. Opportunities may exist for student to participate in testing as well as analysis and reporting of results. In addition, due to the complexity of the problem statement there is the potential to participate in work in other related areas.

Activities would include becoming familiar with relevant historical databases and most recent available data, developing computational calculations and supporting computational packages, participating in evaluation discussions, reports, and/or presentations of results, and other related activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience handling large datasets in Excel (sorting, filtering, built-in function capabilities, etc.).

• Entry-level course work or work experience related to elementary chemical engineering principles (engineering calculations, process variables, material balances, single phase systems, multiphase systems, etc.).

• Entry-level experience with basic calculation code writing (e.g. Excel Visual Basic Macros or Igor Pro).

• Entry-level course work or work experience related to sample analysis methodologies.

Active graduate student in Chemical Engineering or active graduate student in a related field with undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering.

3.5 GPA or higher is preferred
