Location: Richland, Washington Title: Network Engineer IV Schedule (FT/PT): Regular Full Time Travel Required: Yes (0-25%) Clearance: Ability to Obtain North Wind Solutions is a Government contracting small business with operations at military and civilian installations across the United States. The company's focus is facilities operation and maintenance, waste management and radiological services, security control and force protection, and environmental services. POSITION PURPOSE: In support of the Northwind IT Infrastructure organization, this position will be part of a team responsible for supporting the Hanford's Information Management System. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide Tier-2 troubleshooting support, working with the user support team and the operations staff to effectively manage and communicate issues and perform problem analysis to resolution on a 24/7 schedule. As such, lead problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations. Manage the day-to-day technical operations of core, distribution, and access layer switching equipment (routers, gateways, switches). Manage the day-to-day technical operations of firewall administration. Maintain documentation of network transport, distribution, access layer, firewall. Develop and maintain a positive and effective relationship with peers, staff supporting Information Management subcontractors and customer base. This includes communicating effectively, oral and written. Exercise sound judgment and discretion as well as working well under pressure on short turnaround assignments. Communicate and present technical information, products, or services clearly and effectively to varying audiences. Assist in administering and ensuring technical security compliance with the site security plan and cyber security initiatives applicable to the computing services environment maintaining confidential and specialized information, organizational policies, procedures, and operations. Perform work safely and in compliance with environmental obligations using the core functions and elements of the Integrated Safety Management System and Environmental Management System. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Arrange scheduled network upgrades. Report network status to key stakeholders. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in computer science related field with 8+ years' work experience. Experience and success with LAN, WAN, and WLAN design and implementation. Experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices. Minimum 8 years' experience designing, implementing, managing, and supporting enterprise level IP networks. Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of core routing and switching design principles, best practices, and related technologies. Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including routers, switches (layer 2/3), firewalls, remote access, DNS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLAN, QoS. Ability to upgrade network equipment to the latest firmware releases. Ability to provide support during non-standard business hours and be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week as needed or as scheduled. Strong interpersonal, written, documentation and oral communication skills. Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required. Ability to present ideas.
