City of Richland Meter, Power & Protection Technician I (MPP Technician I) in Richland, Washington

$61.71 per hour

Under the direction of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor or designee, a MPP Technician I with the City of Richland's Electrical Systems division, operates and maintains electrical revenue metering and substation equipment; performs maintenance, repair, tests, and calibrations on all types of electrical energy metering; performs underground fault locating, construction, fabrication, and welding as needed. Subject to 24-hour call-out for emergency situations.

The typical schedule for this position is Tuesday through Friday 6:00am - 4:30pm.

Minimum Qualifications:

[EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS]{.underline}

  • High school diploma or GED, and successful completion of one (1) of the following apprenticeships: Journeyman Meter Technician, Journeyman Relay Technician or Journeyman Substation Electrician.
  • Three (3) years of direct Journeyman level experience.
  • Proficiency in a Windows based computing environment, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

[LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS]{.underline}

  • Valid driver's license.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of direct Journeyman level experience.
  • Three (3) years of direct experience installing, programming, testing, and troubleshooting protective relays, revenue meters, or substation maintenance equipment.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) relays.
  • Experience, education, and training in more than just one of the following journeyman classifications: Meter Technician, Relay Technician or Substation Electrician.
  • Prior experience and/or training performing underground fault location.
  • Prior experience programming Program Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Prior fabrication and welding experience.
  • Applied knowledge of laws and regulations that govern the electrical industry in the State of Washington.
  • Working knowledge specifically in the following Microsoft programs: Excel, SharePoint, and Word.
