Project Overview:

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met. Participate in schedule review; provide input for earnings for groups deliverables; Handle EDR reviews with timely responses; coordinate meetings with Client, PE, EGS/DEGS, support engineers; bring technical issues to management with optional recommended solutions/closure strategies; Hold pre-job briefs for main deliverables such as P&IDs, Calculations, procurement deliverables. Provide input into deliverable tracker for resource loading and performance earning, perform pre-job kickoffs and mid-job briefs and product reviews to ensure quality and schedule commitments are met for assigned scope. Ensure personnel are effectively loaded with sufficient backlog of executable work with appropriate direction, to ensure personnel resources are operating at efficiency. Provide cost and schedule input in support of trend development. Provide input at year end performance of assigned personnel.

Part-Time Telework, Majority Office: This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage discipline work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.

  • Provide direction to discipline work group consistent with project/program.

  • Develop and revise Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and mechanical system formal calculations.

  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.

  • Support discipline design reviews to verify that requirements and expectations for design products are met.

  • Support the PEM/PE/EGS on interfaces with DOE, DNFSB, WDOH, and Ecology.

  • Complete assigned engineering tasks within budget/schedule and support identification and development of engineering trends and BCPs in discipline area.

  • Support and implement the Nuclear Safety Quality Culture in day-to-day work activities.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Level 1- Requires a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent) with 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

  • Level 2- Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent) with 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)

  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires extensive technical knowledge and understanding of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials, applications of computer software to engineering problems to ensure the design is cost effective, in accordance with applicable safety, health, environmental regulations, customer requirements and engineering codes and standards.

  • Nuclear experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.

  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential.

  • Related experience includes but is not limited to experience in performing calculations and design, including documentation, related to hydraulics, equipment sizing, and overall system design for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.

  • Experience in processing facilities, DOE facilities, or DOD facilities preferred.

  • Professional Registration in Mechanical, Nuclear or Chemical Engineering preferred.

  • Knowledge of Bechtel corporate guides and standards preferred.
