UDR is seeking qualified candidates for Mechanical Engineer SME opportunity inRichland, WAto support the Hanford Site. Work Location: The primary work location will be at 2435 Stevens Center, Richland, WA and other Richland client offices as needed. SCOPE OF WORK The Mechanical Engineer SME functions as an Engineering Discipline Lead in the Engineering Programs Group and provides subject matter expertise in specified discipline with extensive knowledge of codes and standards applicable to the discipline. The specific position will provide expertise in the mechanical engineering discipline, with particular emphasis on piping design and BPV code expertise. Engineering Programs evaluates existing equipment and/or design features for functionality and provides SMEs to the field to support code compliance, design guidance, reviews of alternate designs. This position includes the following responsibilities: Provide discipline design and technical reviews of new designs, major facility modifications, and other technical documents as required by procedures and as requested. Develop, implement, maintain, assess, and interpret assigned discipline-specific processes, procedures and standards to be applied to TOC engineering work. Keep current with and assess changes to Department of Energy (DOE), national, and industry consensus codes and standards applicable to their discipline and as assigned. Effectively influence practitioners across the Tank Operating Contract (TOC) in the disciplined conduct of their specific subject matter Represent TOC and make authoritative technical recommendations in respect of their discipline. Maintain technical competence and stay current with tools, methodologies and standards relevant to their respective discipline. Support operations and project delivery in the identification of appropriate discipline-specific design input and engineering processes, procedures and standards to be used for the delivery of engineering work. Establish and maintain relationships with external SMEs and the supply chain and to augment in-house subject matter expertise when required to deliver TOC scope. Sponsor and/or lead discipline-specific process improvement initiatives. Communicate, train, and advise the organization on discipline-specific technical requirements and issues. Promote and facilitate best practice and the sharing of discipline-specific learning across the TOC. Applies an extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in assignments and related work. Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the department in conferences to resolve important questions and coordinate work. Provides engineering guidance, calculations, analysis, studies, and recommendations for a specialized segment of engineering within schedule and budget. Attend project meetings. Set high standard for conduct of engineering, quality of products, and compliance with procedures, codes, and standards. Perform administrative duties on time (routine training, safety meetings, daily time allocation, continuing training, staff meetings). Provide training and mentoring to help develop less experienced engineers. Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree is required. A minimum of 12 years' experience in mechanical engineering. Currently certified as Registered Professional Engineer (PE), ideally in State of Washington. Extensive knowledge of and proficiency in applicable orders, codes, and standards with emphasis on piping and vessel design including ASME B31 series, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code. Extensive knowledge of both design and testing requirements per code. Experience with nuclear safety analysis and safety basis process. Experience
