For more information, please visit the Laboratory website at www.ligo.caltech.edu Job Summary This position is the lead of the LIGO Hanford Observatory (LHO) Facilities Group maintenance team, reporting to the Operations Manager. The facilities team is responsible for daily maintenance and repair of all components of Observatory and Support buildings including HVAC, plumbing, lighting, fixtures, flooring, etc. The Facilities Team Lead requires an understanding of and compliance with cleanroom protocols, ultra-high vacuum procedures and laser safety procedures. The Facilities Team Lead will work with LIGO staff and vendors to ensure the Observatory is in compliance with Environmental and Safety requirements, including both Federal and Washington State requirements. The successful candidate will work under general supervision and coordinate the work of facilities staff. Work packages include both routine and novel assignments: good judgment is required to properly maintain LIGO buildings and site, and to ensure that they provide a safe environment and house elements in proper working order. The Facilities Team Lead will provide administrative and leadership support to members of the Facilities team. This is an Organizational Critical position.In the event of an emergency on campus, an employee designated as organizational critical is expected to report to Campus as soon as possible to assist in division/department response and recovery efforts. Essential Job Duties Oversee all facilities maintenance activities and supervision of facilities staff. Oversee contractors doing facility work around site. Manage assigned budgets. Ensure proper paperwork is filed with regulatory agency, for example, Waste Permit, Water Permit, etc. Perform support and maintenance functions including, but not limited to, minor plumbing, HVAC, chilled water systems, clean room repairs, vacuum system trouble shooting, and water systems. Diagnose and repair various facilities equipment. Apply basic skills in mechanical maintenance and select from standard procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and equipment appropriate to accomplish these tasks. Rapid troubleshooting of facilities equipment failures, both on-site and on-call. Communicate clearly with observatory management, staff, contractors, and vendors, in both written and verbal form. Employ computerized maintenance management interfaces including FAMIS and FRS. Machine shop, rigging, crane operation, scissor, aerial lift, and forklift certification required.
