Lab Specialist I - System One Subcontractor

Minimum requirements:

Seeking a Lab Specialist for the Analytical Services Team at Framatome’ s 2101 Horn Rapids Road Richland, WA location. High school diploma plus 0-2 years’ experience and a high school chemistry course or other applicable chemistry experience required. Prefer AS Degree with Chemistry courses.

Preferred Skills:

  • General working knowledge of laboratory instruments and equipment.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

  • Ability to work with limited direct supervision after training.

  • Knowledge of basic computer operations, including spreadsheets, word processing and e-mail.

  • College level chemistry courses and/or experience in chemical laboratories is preferred.

  • Work Safely, Quality Work, Customer orientated, Dependable, Teamwork, Interpersonal Skills, Job Knowledge, and Productivity.

    Physical Requirement:

  • Good manual dexterity. Ability to use both hands, with protective gloves, to manipulate samples in a safety fume hood.

  • Ability to work standing at lab bench or fume hood for periods up to 1 hour at a time.

    Day-to-Day activities/requirements:

  • Receive samples and enter information and test results in the Laboratory Information Management System database.

  • Perform chemical analysis on materials using various laboratory equipment and instruments and perform quality checks.

  • Prepare and analyze samples utilizing established laboratory practices and procedures.

  • Keep lab equipment, supplies, and work area clean and organized and dispose of samples and waste in adherence with strict safety procedures.

  • Work around radioactive materials and/or corrosive chemicals such as acids and must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

    The Analytical Service Team:

    The Analytical Services Team supports nuclear fuel and reactor control component manufacturing by performing analyses of products for chemical and mechanical properties. The Analytical Services laboratories are equipped with a wide range of instrumental analyses (LECO analyzers for H, N, C&S, ICP-MS and multiple Agilent ICP-MS and ICP-OES, Nu mass spectrometers, Bruker XRF, Thermo ion chromatograph, Shimadzu gas chromatograph, Dupont electrolysis, VaporPro, CEM microwave prep, etc.) and wet chemistry capabilities (e.g. titration, ion sensitive electrodes). Analytical Services also uses Thermo Fisher Scientific SampleManager LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) software for sample tracking, results recording and reporting.
