Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Instructional Designer 4 in Richland, Washington

Overview

As a member of the radiological safety sub-group of the PNNL Training Support organization, you will serve primarily as a Radiation Protection Instructor. In this capacity, you will be tasked with the conduct and coordination of radiation protection technologist, radiation worker classroom, and on-the-job training to include the administration and proctoring of written examinations, the conduct of practical exercises, and the evaluation of learner performance. You will also serve as an instructional designer in this space who develops and maintains training materials delivered to radiation protection technologists and radiation workers.

Responsibilities

Responsible for planning, developing, and conducting training specifically focused on radiation protection and control activities. The Instructional Design process is consistent with the Systematic Approach to Training and the ADDIE Model. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership for the training development process and the delivery of training.

  • Providing internal consulting services to the functional units to design and develop their training programs.

  • Serving as a SME for specific compliance requirements.

  • Serving as a formal reviewer of training documents to ensure their accuracy and completeness.

  • Developing criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities.

  • Preparing and deploying self-assessment activities for assigned areas and supports internal/external audits for assigned programs.

  • Staying abreast of federal, state and local regulations for impacts and requirements on training programs.

  • Evaluating and/or overseeing contractors or vendors to develop and/or administer training programs.

  • Providing remedial training and evaluation when appropriate.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA and 7 years of relevant experience -OR-

  • MS/MA or higher and 5 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Radiation Protection/Control Technician experience

  • Certified as a classroom and/or On-the-Job (OJT) training instructor

  • Familiarity with DOE laboratory operations

Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment

  • Entry into facility radiological areas.

In accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, new employees are required to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential. To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This investigation includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.

Mandatory Requirements

Please be aware that the Department of Energy (DOE) prohibits DOE employees and contractors from having any affiliation with the foreign government of a country DOE has identified as a “country of risk” without explicit approval by DOE and Battelle. If you are offered a position at PNNL and currently have any affiliation with the government of one of these countries, you will be required to disclose this information and recuse yourself of that affiliation or receive approval from DOE and Battelle prior to your first day of employment.
