Hanford Mission Integration Solutions Industrial Hygienist (39435) in Richland, Washington

Job Duties/Scope Of Work The role of the Industrial Hygienist will be to provide safety and health support to HMIS and the Safety Programs organization. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: •Monitor and ensure the effective implementation of the HMIS Chemical Management Process across all facilities. •Assess chemical products for environmental issues such as substitution, storage, waste, disposal, and missions, and document findings via chemical procurement screening forms. •Obtain and verify hazardous material classifications according to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. •Evaluate and approve electronic Bill of Materials (eBOM), Supply Ordering System (SOS), and Asset Suite Contract Requisitions for chemical acquisitions. •Identify excess chemicals in the Chemical Inventory Tracking System (CITS) and facilitate their redistribution to other facilities as needed. Enter and update chemical inventories regularly. •Verify that chemical storage practices meet facility and regulatory standards. •Review and update aggregate quantities reports per NFPA-1 Material Classification and provide verified reports to facility managers and fire protection engineers. •Assist with inventories of chemical products at HMIS facilities. •Provide training to facility operations staff on chemical storage and inventory management. •Work with bargaining unit, management, and field safety personnel to ensure proper chemical container labeling. •Conduct hazardous materials screening for emergency preparedness. •Review and approve Chemical Procurement Screening forms. •Assist employees and management in the resolution of employee safety concerns. •Develop and distribute Lessons Learned and Just-in-Time notices across the Hanford Site. •Collaborate with management and workforce to implement the Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) and assist with targeted assessments. •Serve as the interpretative authority for assigned safety and health procedures/programs. •Conduct management assessments, self-assessments, and management observations of safety and health programs and procedures. Basic Qualifications INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: •Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry or other related Science discipline, plus 5-9 years of experience -OR- an equivalent combination of education and experience. •Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to make timely decisions within established guidelines. •Ability and desire to take initiative to complete all tasks independently and be proactive in promoting teamwork within the organization and with customers. •Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to both technical and non-technical audiences. •Comfort and proficiency in public speaking. •Proven experience working with bargaining unit employees on safety-related issues. •Interfaces with other groups inside and outside of the organization, senior management, and auditors. •Identifies complex problems and reviews related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. SENIOR LEVEL: (in addition to Intermediate Level duties) •Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, or Science discipline, plus a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. •Experience providing guidance as a subject matter expert. •Must be able to take required initiative, act independently, lead teams, motivate others, and implement improvements or take necessary corrective action. Desired Qualifications •Strong background in chemistry. •Familiarity with Department of Energy or Hanford-specific safety systems/databases. •Safety and Health Certification. •Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
