Project Overview:
Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era. The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities Pretreatment, Low- Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities. This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and primarily works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30am to 5:00pm. Position may require additional work on weekends or evenings.
Job Summary:
As WTCC SME for Electrical Safety National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E, responsibilities include providing oversight and solutions for field implementation during all project phases of the High-Level Waste facility and support facilities. This role will require direct interaction with our client DOE. #LI-CL1
Major Responsibilities:
Provides oversight of electrical field activities (construction/startup) to ensure compliance with NFPA 70E requirements.
Provides assistance to electrical field activities (construction/startup) where there is an implementation concern.
Updates/aligns implementing procedures for NFPA 70E.
Updates/aligns electrical safety training.
Assists Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) with his responsibilities and determinations for project interpretations of NFPA70E.
Communicates with the client Department of Energy (DOE) on the resolution of electrical safety issues/concerns.
Demonstrates safety in job function.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
Certified as an Electrical Safety Compliance Professional NFPA-70E.
Possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
Be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Must be familiar with current industry quality standards and have an excellent knowledge of the NFPA 70E Standard Electrical Safety in the Workplace, National Electrical code (NEC) and OSHA.
Working knowledge of the DOE Electrical Safety Regulations (DOE-0359 and DOE-HDBK-1092).
Must be computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Expected to demonstrate professional characteristics, initiative, tact, and flexibility while performing job duties and projects.
Knowledge and experience in construction methods, processes, and safety compliance. Working knowledge of OSHA 29CFR1910, 29CFR1926 and 10CFR851.
Excellent people skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for spreadsheet and database applications.
