Project Overview
Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest. Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake, and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
Position Description :
The Project Engineer will provide leadership and develop strategic relationships with DOE personnel to advance the design of the High Level Waste facility. This position will report to the Project Engineering Manager. The Project Engineer will be responsible for interfacing with Engineering Management to collaborate on staffing needs, forecasts, trend authorizations, and technical reviews. The Project Engineer will also be responsible for directing engineering assignments on the project and has technical responsibilities for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments. This position is responsible for the Laboratory Hot Cell and other support facilities that enable the High Level Waste facility to operate.
This position is a full-time role located in the Richland, Washington project office, and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.
Position Responsibilities :
Directs and coordinates engineering activities for assigned portions of a project including supervision of engineers of all disciplines within the project team
Establishes engineering budget and schedule for portions of a project
Performs and manages the work in accordance with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
Develops engineering schedules for approval
Prepares and approves project procedures for engineering
Coordinates engineering effort with Project Manager, Procurement, Construction, Startup, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), Project Controls, and other Global Business Units (GBUs) when necessary
Directs engineering activities in preparation of project proposals, including estimates for engineering staffing, quantities, scope reviews, schedules, and coordination with other functional groups
Collaborates annual performance reviews with Engineering Management in accordance with approved procedures
Reviews and approves design documents, change orders, material requisitions, and specifications for construction or procurement use
Coordinates activities among the design groups on the project
Initiates requests for specialized professional services
Initiates Bechtel / Client correspondence related to the engineering portion of the contract
Reviews project engineering progress against approved schedules, evaluates changes, and takes corrective action when required
Makes recommendation to Engineering Management of key personnel for project assignments
Directs the preparation of project studies, reports, forecasts, special engineering reports, and plant data book
Ensures that Technical Risk Assessments are comprehensive and complete, safety practices and procedures are implemented, and engineering design documentation comply with project Quality Assurance plan and procedures
Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to client, project, and functional management
Champions a project work environment which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a diverse group of customers
Basic Qualifications :
B.S. Degree in engineering or associated scientific discipline from an accredited college or university and 13 years of progressive and relevant work experience
Previous work experience includes being responsible for the supervision of at least 5-10 engineers in an engineering or scientific discipline
Prior work experience being responsible for the engineering progress and performance reporting
Experience in project design or execution with previous demonstrated experience with various types of systems.
Must be a U.S. citizen
Professional Engineering Registration, or ability to achieve registration within 12 months of accepting this position
Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience on WTP or other DOE nuclear sites
Previous work experience includes being responsible for the supervision of at least 10-30 engineers in an engineering or scientific discipline on a medium size project
