Hanford Mission Integration Solutions Engineer - Electrical (39386) in Richland, Washington
Job Duties/Scope Of Work This position will provide engineering support to the HMIS Electrical Utilities (HMIS-EU) engineering organization which supports the operation of 60 miles of transmission line, 150 miles of distribution line and 4 electrical substations. There are approximately 500 customers served and the HMIS-EU Engineering team is multi-disciplined consisting of several engineers. This engineer position will be responsible for reviewing designs to modify the transmission lines, to add or remove services to customers on the distribution lines, and to improve the substations. The successful candidate is expected to complete the requisite training and qualifications to become a system design authority. Responsibilities will include: - Developing, reviewing, and approving engineering content for work packages and other engineering documents and reports. - Developing Facility Modification Packages and Design Change Notices to document engineering changes. - Providing peer review and checking of other engineers' work products. - Developing statements of work and engineering specifications which clearly and concisely detail the activity, requirements, and expectations for the service being provided. - Ensuring that completed work products meet established engineering and quality standards. - Ensuring system drawings are kept current with changes to transmission and distribution equipment. Basic Qualifications • BS in Electrical Engineering plus five (5) or more years of relevant experience. • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with respect to equipment troubleshooting, deficiency trending and failure prediction. • Effective communication skills to convey technical information to diverse audiences, as well as working in team environments. • Working knowledge of electrical equipment, maintenance practices, industrial safety, and Conduct of Operations. • Familiarity with electrical utility related governmental codes and standards including electrical installation and maintenance. • Familiarity with relaying, substation yard configuration and controls. Desired Qualifications • Work experience with electrical power engineering. • Understanding of the regulations and laws that apply to high-voltage equipment (National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC), etc.). • Experience with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) and Electromechanical relays, batteries, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), and protection schemes. • Experience in public works or an electrical utility. • Experience with transmission and distribution. • Experience with maintenance or repair of electrical components, including troubleshooting and calculating the capacity/size of electrical components. • Experience preparing documents/procedures addressing electrical maintenance requirements. • Experience preparing arc flash analyses.
