Project Overview:

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will supervise a team of Mechanical personnel, estimate project staffing needs, and schedule and assign work. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans and review and approve mechanical investigations and studies. Your leadership will drive high quality work plans, successful implementation of mechanical components, team support and training, and project performance.

Full-Time In Office: This position is a full-time role located in the Richland, Washington project office, and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Major Responsibilities:

Level 1

  • Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day-to-day mechanical handling engineering activity on small sized projects or a portion of a major project with minimal complexity within a global business unit utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​

  • Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly​

  • Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements​

  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of mechanical handling discipline work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly​

  • Reviews and makes recommendations of the mechanical engineering aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering​

  • When directed, coordinates with client representatives to obtain their approval of mechanical handling engineering aspects of the work​

  • Reviews and approves key calculations, licensing evaluations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders, for the project to which assigned​

  • Ensures that assigned mechanical handling engineering personnel receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development​

  • Assists in the preparation and reviews of project procedures and cost estimates for proposals, forecasts, and change orders

Level 2

  • Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day-to-day mechanical handling engineering activity on small to medium sized projects or a portion of a major project with minimal to moderate complexity within a global business unit utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​

  • Support and implement the Nuclear Safety Quality Culture in day-to-day work activities.

  • Perform in a highly collaborative environment where all team members participate in resolving design challenges.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Level 1 - Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering (or international equivalent) and 8 -10 years of relevant experience

  • Level 2- Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.

  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.

  • The primary role is to manage discipline work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.

  • Comprehend and effectively implement project requirements for applicable WTP Mechanical Handling Designs.

  • Familiar with regulations and industry codes and standards affecting complex engineering work within discipline.

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
