Overview
The Cyber Security & Digital Operations Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is looking for a Cyber Security Engineer to join our Advanced Introspection & Analytics team. We are looking for an experienced engineer with a passion for cyber security who wants to help build the data platforms and infrastructure for innovative cyber capabilities. This critical role is part of a growing team of experienced cyber security experts with a culture of collaboration, creativity, agility, and professional delivery. Your contributions at the Lab will directly contribute to the cyber defense of PNNL and our support of diverse sponsor missions
Responsibilities
Our team is taking on big challenges and working on innovative approaches to stay ahead of our cyber adversaries. If you're an experienced engineer with a passion for cyber and data solutions, this role provides the opportunity to make a big impact and play a key role in achieving our vision for data and analytics.
Work closely with cyber analysts, engineers, data scientists, and others to understand requirements and design solutions needed for innovative cyber capabilities
Design, build, deploy, and maintain a variety of cyber platforms, tools, and data pipelines to enable advanced analytics, data science, and AI/ML solutions, both on-premise and in the cloud
Scripting and automation of system deployment and maintenance tasks
Monitor system performance and health, addressing issues proactively
Working independently and leading collective team efforts to achieve cyber program objectives
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR-
MS/MA -OR-
PhD
Preferred Qualifications:
Foundational cyber security knowledge across a variety of cyber domains
Strong peer leadership, interpersonal, collaborative, and customer relationship skills
System administration experience with an eye towards innovative systems engineering
Data engineering, designing scalable systems to enable analytics/data science/AI/ML solutions
Technical experience:
Linux system administration
Cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, AWS CloudFormation, etc.)
Docker/container-based solutions
Software development/scripting (python, REST APIs, git, CI/CD pipelines)
Splunk, ElasticSearch/ELK
SQL & NoSQL databases
Microsoft Defender security suite
Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment

Additional Information
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.

Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).
Testing Designated Position
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.
