City of Richland Communications & Marketing Specialist (Temporary - 6 months) in Richland, Washington

*Target Hiring Range is $31.26 - $37.52 (DOQ) *

This is a limited term opportunity, not expected to exceed six (6) months. Benefit eligible.

This is an on-site position with no work from home option.

The City of Richland is seeking a passionate brand ambassador to join our communications and marketing team on a full-time temporary basis. The ideal candidate will be skilled in navigating the complexities of working in a highly visible role supporting a diverse customer base, both internal and external. To be successful in this position, a person would thrive in a faced paced environment and enjoy building partnerships. 

The expected schedule for this position is Monday through Friday during regular business hours.

GENERAL SUMMARY   Performs intermediate technical work communicating news and other information related to the City to employees, customers, and the media, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Communications and Marketing Manager ("supervisor").   CORE VALUES   All employees are expected to model and foster the City of Richland's core values in the performance of their duties and their interactions while representing the City. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS* *

  • Researches and writes news briefs for communication to residents and businesses regarding municipal issues, activities and events; Utilizes a variety of communication methods, including print, radio, TV, reader board, and the various social media platforms and media outlets for the timely dissemination of information.
  • Manages the City's social media presence including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.; Responds or redirects public questions and concerns; Administers and provides regular content updates for the City's Website.
  • Researches and writes interesting and informative weekly employee newsletter; Prepares analytical data using email marketing software.
  • Develops and organizes news stories, including the monthly Mayors Report on KONA and the bi-monthly City Beat on KVEW-TV; Prepares talking points for City Council or City Staff as needed.
  • Promotes new and existing businesses through social media marketing and City-wide special events; Collaborates and host city events.
  • Hosts bi-weekly government access channel program; Provides voice-over and additional hosting duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Valid driver's license.   EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of marketing experience.

 

Desirable Qualifications

 

Associate degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business administration, public administration, or closely related field.

At least four (4) years of public relations support experience, preferably in communications and/or marketing.
